Grand Hyatt, Lanco Hills, Hyderabad | 400+ keys | 30 fl

Source: DP Architects,

Wow, nice swanky design. Looks awesome. Hope they stick to this. Lanco Hills would look great, once this Grand Hyatt hotel towers up at the site along with Lanco mega mall.
BTW, Does this site come under AAI restrictions, being a 30 floor hotel? I hope the airport authorities would not spoil our party. We already hit a low with 45 floor ITC to a mere 14 floor hotel @Raidurg.
I agree with what URSA and Kailash said. This is more to do with economy. I still like the new design, only disappointed by its height.

New Delhi: Australian hotel chain StayWell Hospitality Group (SWHG) plans to invest $50 million in India to open 50 hotel properties by 2017, said Simon Wan, chief executive and managing director of StayWell Hospitality Group.
The company, which entered India in 2010, will open its first hotel in Hyderabad in May, followed by properties in Greater Noida, Goa and Raipur over the next two years.
“We have four signed contracts for hotels in Hyderabad, Raipur, Greater Noida and Goa and are in advance stages of finalizing deals with hotel developers in Indore, Pune, Jaipur, Mumbai and Chandigarh. The company plans to finalize the deals in next 6-8 months,” said Wan. “Our aim is to have 50 properties (either open or signed contracts) in next five years, opening around 8 to 10 hotels every year.”
The group operates two midmarket brands, Leisure Inn and Park Regis, and has network of 35 properties in Asia Pacific Region. It has equity and ownership interest in 16 of its properties.
“One-fourth of our hotels are managed, other one-fourth are leased so we have some financial commitments towards them, and we have equity in another one-fourth of our hotels,” said Wan. “This is our global strategy. In India, we will have hotels in the same ratio.”
Rohit Vig, managing director, India, StayWell Hospitality Services, said the group does not plan to have any greenfield properties and plans to focus on a mixed-use model.
“We won’t start hotels from scratch. We are looking at locations where there is some sort of structure and services in place,” said Vig. “Our Raipur hotel is under mixed use model and will be a part of the biggest mall there. Our strategy is to focus on meetings, incentives, conventions and events and weddings, so all our properties will have banquet halls,” he said. “Other focus area is food and beverages facilities.”

Efforts to check drunken driving by persons attending parties at hotels during New Year celebrations

City police officials on Tuesday asked managements of hotels convening New Year celebrations to procure breath analysers to check customers leaving their premises after partying.

This would help in checking drunken driving by persons attending parties at hotels, the police said.

Hotel owners should also make arrangements for customers by providing drivers or cabs so that the latter can reach their destinations safely.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma held a meeting with hotel managements on Tuesday and discussed security measures to be taken during the ensuing Christmas, New Year and other celebrations at the hotels.

The police told hotel owners to educate bouncers and other staff members to be courteous and polite with the customers.

Cool Playboy coming to HYDERABAD

Playboy will enter the Indian hospitality market in alliance with PB Lifestyle Ltd in the first quarter of 2013. The new venture will launch the country’s first Playboy beach cafe in Goa with future plans for eight clubs, 65 cafes and 49 bars over ten years in India. PB Lifestyle, an Indian firm with rights to the Playboy brand will use the 'Playboy' brand and its iconic rabbit-head logo on clubs, bars and cafes.

It will launch the first upscale cafe with 22,000 square feet of space on North Goa's Candolim beach. Speaking to Hospitality Biz, Sanjay Gupta, CEO, PB Lifestyle, said, “We will soon announce the official launch dates of the very first Playboy beach café in Goa. PB Lifestyle has also earmarked an investment of USD 38 million (Rs two billion) over five years. The group has plans for F&B and hospitality formats in markets which include Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkota, Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Pune.”

Gupta added, “We are bringing the brand 'Playboy' to India through a licensing agreement. Currently, our focus is on the Goa property, this will be followed by one in Hyderabad. We have plans for hotels as well, but there are in the Phase-II of our expansion plans in India.”

Speaking on Playboy’s entry into India, Matthew Nordby, Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer, Playboy Enterprises, said, “Playboy’s global appeal as a design-driven and upscale lifestyle brand is a great fit with India’s rising middle class and large Gen Y audience. We have given tremendous consideration to the local tastes and customs of India and our Playboy club concept will introduce a glamorous, upscale and aspirational indulgence to Indian consumers.

AUSTRALIA'S StayWell Hospitality Group will debut its first Indian property in Hyderabad come May. The 82-room Leisure Inn hotel will be located in the city centre, the company's first step in an ambitious US$50 million expansion plan.

StayWell – which operates the four-star Park Regis and three-star Leisure Inn brands – wants to establish 50 hotels in India by 2017, with 60 per cent under Park Regis and the rest, Leisure Inn.

Following Hyderabad, the Group will launch properties in Greater Noida, Raipur and Goa by mid-2014. StayWell also intends to expand its footprint to Chandigarh, Pune, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai.

All StayWell hotels will be a mix of three business models that the company employs in other global markets – a third will be management contracts, a third, lease agreements and a third, with equity involved.

Rohit Vig, managing director for India, StayWell Hospitality Group, said: “India has a growing annual travelling population of 650 million, and one of the largest, growing middle classes in the world, meaning opportunities for accommodation providers are very apparent.

“StayWell offers recognised brands in the three- and four-star hotel space with established systems and hotel networks – something that is lacking in the Indian market.”

Arun Anand, managing director, Midtown Travels, welcomed StayWell’s entry into the Indian market. “Even though there are many hotels in the mid-market segment, StayWell’s entry into the market will provide one more international option to travellers who are looking for value for money propositions.”

StayWell Hospitality Group currently has 35 hotels with 4,000 rooms under its umbrella in Australia, Asia-Pacific, the UK and the Middle East.

903 rooms? Really? Then it'll definitely be the largest hotel in the country in terms of rooms.....I highly doubt it'll have so many rooms, also building doesn't look that huge. Being so far away from the business district why would one build so many rooms, also it's not a very big entertainment centre too.

It's definitely one of the best resorts around. And they have a pretty good convention center so they can definitely fill it up whenever big MICE events are held in the city.

Leonia's website says that the convention center can accommodate upto 6000 people.

I heard a lot about this resorts too.....Kailash posted link to FHD architects yesterday and in that there is mention of 3 apartment blocks also in this project and something about medical tourism, so maybe a big hospital will also come in the vicinity. Hyderabad needs one huge amusement park.....hope somebody builds something on lines of amusement parks in US.

HYDERABAD: The ongoing international ophthalmology conference in the city has given hotels here a reason to rejoice as most of them are flooded with bookings for delegates.

Officials from city hotels reported a boost in business thanks to the event and went on to say that this conference has been better for the hotel industry here compared to the much-hyped CoP-11.

The conference, which is the 28th Congress of the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, is a four-day event from January 17 to 20 and is being held at Hyderabad International Convention Centre.

With nearly 10,000 delegates from 19 countries in town for the event, many star hotels in the city were fully booked for five days from Thursday onwards.

"We are completely sold out for the dates January 16 through to January 20 with around 120 rooms booked for the delegates of the ophthalmology conference," said Prem Joseph, director of sales and marketing at Marriot Hotel and Convention Centre.

"At least 30% of the total occupancy in both Marriot and Courtyard comprises of participants for this event. We have definitely gained more from this conference than CoP-11 as our expectations from the biodiversity conference were very high. Eventually the results were disappointing," he added.

For the biodiversity conference, Marriot had an average booking of 25 rooms for 15 nights which adds up to nearly 400 room nights as against the 500 room nights for the current event.

Officials from the Taj group of hotels too said that all their hotels were sold out for the duration of the conference and the total bookings were nearly 500% more when compared to those for CoP-11.

At other hotels too, officials seem to be celebrating the flood of bookings that the event has brought. "We have around 58 rooms booked for the event. Although for the biodiversity conference we had 90 rooms booked, they were given at a discounted price of around Rs 5000 per night while for this event, the price is Rs 8000 exclusive of taxes," said an official at Avasa Hotel.

Other hotels like Lemon Tree and Westin Mindspace too reported mass bookings for the conference.

"Typically, in the first couple of months in the year business is not that good. But this conference has come as a boon for us as business is incredible this season," said Ko Van Den Hil, general manager at Westin. He further said that 35% of their inventory was booked for this particular event.

Speaking about the reason behind the difference in business generated by both events, Pradeep Dutt, secretary general of Hotels and Restaurants Association of Andhra Pradesh said many countries participating in the biodiversity conference were on the poorer side and were looking for the lowest quoted prices at hotels.

"But for medical conferences with high profile doctors, price is not an issue as many pharmaceutical companies sponsor them," Dutt said.

The Taj Falaknuma Palace has been adjudged as the ‘Best Hotel of the Year-2013’ by Andrew Harper Collection, a widely regarded publication, which is considered by many as a guide for luxury hotels in the world.

The Taj Falaknuma Palace was the venue where the extravagant royal Nizam’s family used to host official banquets and also used it as a State guesthouse. Extensive refurbishment carried out under the guidance of Princess Esra Jah, has re-instated the palace to its former glory.

The Falaknuma Palace already has been voted as ‘Asia and Indian Subcontinent’s Best Hotel’, voted as being in the top five hotels in the world in the ‘Best of Best’ list by Conde Nast Traveller’s Reader’s Travel Awards-2012. The New York Times has recognised the Falaknuma Palace as among the ‘Top 20 Places in the World’ to visit.
