Indian Hotels unveils ‘Vivanta by Taj' brand
Plans to add 60,000-70,000 rooms in 7 years Gets Rs.180 crore part-compensation for terror attack Raymond Bickson, MD and CEO, Indian Hotels Company, introducing Vivanta by Taj Hotels and Resorts at in Bangalore on Tuesday. BANGALORE: The Tata Group's flagship in the hospitality segment, The Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), announced on Tuesday the launch of its new brand, Vivanta by Taj, a portfolio of 19 properties across the country in the “upper upscale” segment. Raymond N. Bickson, Managing Director and CEO, while unveiling the new brand here, said the second phase of the company's “rethinking and rebranding exercise” was aimed at “rapid expansion of capacity in the key segment.” Mr. Bickson said the creation of the brand follows a similar exercise followed by the company while creating The Taj Gateway portfolio of hotels in the “upscale” segment two years ago. “We have added a new hotel every six weeks in the last seven years and we plan to add 60,000-70,000 rooms in the next seven years,” Mr. Bickson said. Explaining the rationale for the rebranding exercise, Mr. Bickson said, “Our strategy of ensuring domestic dominance could not have been with just the Taj brand.” He said the segmented nature of the market meant that the company addressed demand in “every niche of the business.” The Ginger Hotels at the lowest level, and the Taj Gateway at the upper-end, ensured that the company addressed demand at every level of the hospitality business, he said. Referring to demand, Mr. Bickson said, “The market is robust, with occupancy rates currently at 62-70 per cent.” He said IHCL had received Rs.180 crore as “part-compensation” from its insurers for losses suffered during the terrorist attack on the Taj Palace in 2008. “We expect to close discussion with our insurers in the next few weeks,” he added. Mr. Bickson said 14 more properties would be added to the Vivanta by Taj portfolio in 12-14 months, and four more in 14-18 months. Among the new properties being developed are those in Yeshvantpur (Bangalore), Coimbatore, Hyderabad, and three in Delhi (Dwarka, Gurgaon and Shahdara). In the same period, three Vivanta by Taj resorts will also open in Coorg, Bekal in north Kerala and Srinagar in Kashmir.

To open 189-room hotel in Hyderabad by Feb 2011: Taj GVK
Published on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 14:57 | Updated at Mon, Oct 04, 2010 Taj GVK Hotels do have plans in Hyderabad for commission of 189 room property in 2011. ![]() In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Indira Krishna Reddy, MD, Taj GVK Hotels, spoke about the latest happenings in the company and sector. To open 189-room hotel in Hyderabad by Feb 2011: Taj GVK ![]() Q: Could you take us through this property, which is lined up in Hyderabad, which is expected to be commissioned in 2011? How much of it has been executed and when could it actually be commissioned, in terms of a time line in 2011? A: We are planning to open by February or maximum by the month of March. It is almost getting ready. It is a 189-room hotel. It is going to be Vivanta by Taj. You maybe aware that all five star business hotels of Taj are now called Vivanta by Taj. So, this is one of that hotels, it has got beautiful façade and all the new amenities. But of course it is today’s hotel that means for all these young entrepreneurs, not typically like old palace type of a hotel. It is very modern, a very nice hotel. We are going to launch it in the month of February. We are also planning to launch within a year’s time that is going to be a large 250-room Ginger hotel in Hyderabad; the first Ginger Hotels in this company in Hyderabad. We are planning to look out for sites and other things first to identify the land. We are just looking at areas and identification of land, as far as Ginger Hotels are concerned.Q: Regarding this 189-room property in Hyderabad that you were referring to what is the kind of revenue generating you are expecting, occupancies and also what the likely room rents might be? A: If you mean occupancies in the first year, any hotel in the first year you cannot expect more than 50-55% that is what I think. Maybe if you are lucky enough, you can get 70% also. But first six months, we will take it at 40%, and then it comes to 60%. For the next financial year, the average will be between 55 and 60%. Q: So in FY12 what could be the revenue generation form this property per se? A: We expect between Rs 44-50 crore. Q: A lot of your revenues do only culminate from the Hyderabad market and you have capex which you are undertaking for that market as well. Can you just throw some colour on how exactly the Hyderabad market is panning out? ![]() A: Hotels are long gestation period projects and capital intensive and it is like lifetime. You cannot say that only this year you are going to make money and next year you are not. So, you have to at least look for a long-term of five-ten years. In five-ten years time, Hyderabad has to really grow, whatever the ups and downs Hyderabad is facing today. Total infrastructure is beautifully created in Hyderabad, and the people, the location, the proximity. Hyderabad, I feel is one of the best places to live in the country and it has to grow. ![]() If you look at the roads, this Outer Ring Road (ORR), when you compare with other cities like Chennai, Bangalore etc, this is an excellent city. But at the same time, it has little political issues, which has to be settled by the end of December. These things are all temporary for three-six months, but these hotels have to do well because locationally they are in really strategic location. They are in best locations in Hyderabad. So, they a have to do very well and our company substantially.

![]() If you look at the Congress ruling states situation(majorly Kashimr, Andhra Pradesh etc), I guess, Congress High command has a strategy. Sit calmly and watch the game (Sit & watch). At the end, pass the blame onto some one (for these also they might blame PV).

Sarovar plans Rs 65-crore Hometel in Chennai,Hyderabad
2010-10-09 04:20:00 Delhi-based hotel management company Sarovar Hotels and Resorts is coming up with a three-star budget hotel under its ‘Hometel’ brand in Chennai with an investment of about Rs 65 crore, according to its managing director Anil Madhok. "The 170-room property in Chennai will be company-owned, and will be operational by the beginning of the next financial year," he told Business Standard. Of the 47 hotels that Sarovar currently operates, two are company-owned while the remaining are management contracts under the Sarovar Premiere five-star and Sarovar Portico four-star full-service brands. The company already has two hotels in Puducherry, one each in Chennai and Kochi, three in Bangalore and two in Hyderabad under its fold. It is in the process of opening one more hotel in Hyderabad and three in Bangalore by the end of this financial year. "The Hyderabad property will be a Sarovar Premiere brand with 230 rooms, complete with banqueting, restaurants, spa, swimming pool and a business centre. The investment in the project will not be done by Sarovar but by the company owning it. This apart, a Rs 100-crore hotel in Jaipur is on the cards," Madhok said, adding the company will fund the proposed projects through a mix of debt and internal accruals."We currently manage revenues of Rs 500 crore, and see a 15 per cent growth in revenues this year," Madhok said, adding the company was currently looking at Africa, which offers a huge potential for expansion, and will look at the West Asian market after a couple of years.

Nizam's palace turned Taj Hotel opens ![]() 2010-11-04 20:50:00 Hyderabad, Nov 4 (IANS) Falaknuma Palace, one of the historical landmarks of Hyderabad and which was once owned by the erstwhile nizams, has been thrown open as luxury hotel. After 10 years of extensive and sensitive restoration, the Taj Group of Hotels has opened the palace once owned by rulers of erstwhile Hyderabad State and located in the old city, about five km from the historic Charminar. Built by Nawab Vikar-ul-Umra, the then prime minister of Hyderabad in 1893, it is the single most stunning example of the opulence of Hyderabad's royalty. Ranjit Philipose, General Manager, Taj Falaknuma Palace, told reporters Thursday after a walk through the palace that with 60 exquisite rooms and 15 suites, it offers guests a glimpse of the imperial lifestyle of the nizams. Falaknuma or mirror of the sky in Urdu, was the residence of sixth nizam Mehboob Ali Khan. King Edward VIII and the last Russian Tsar, Nicholas II, were among the guests who stayed here. The tariff ranges from Rs.33,000 to Rs.500,000 for a night's stay. The suites include the Nizam's suite. ![]() The seven-star hotel opened bookings from Oct 31 and it received a couple of guests during the last four days. However, the formal inauguration will take place on Nov 13. The hotel officials said it will be a private party. Mir Barkat Ali Khan Mukarram Jah Bahadur, the scion of the nizam family, his former wife princes Essra and Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata will be among the guests. A rare blend of Italian and Tudor architecture made entirely of Italian marble, the palace is famous for its opulent interiors. The palace also has a dining table claimed to be the world's largest that can seat 101 guests at a time. ![]() The hotel offers nizam's cuisine along with Italian and Mediterranean fare.
