The feeling was sponteneous, as I might now be able to occassionally see those green/yellow rakes here in Mumbai, as I've grown up seeing them on the Sealdah division.. That's about it!

They have stolen the picture from my flickr album.

The one I captured, was of an ER Jessop rake, while the rake that arrived at WR is of an SER owned ICF rake. Also, the report has mixed up SER EMU and MEMU services. EMU trains do not run upto Tatanagar. Little research or review has gone in before printing this article.

You will not be seeing bthem in gree/yellow colors as the report says

"These trains will be customised according to the composition of Mumbai coaches which has ladies, general, first class and handicapped compartments and synchronised in the Mumbai’s violet or red colour."

Also does this reports means that they will be curtailing some service on the SER/ER ? or is it trying to say that SER/ER has rakes which are lying idle and can be used on the mumbai section ?

does this mean that some services in Howrah section will be cut? Why move the trains from ICF, Chennai to Howrah and then to Mumbai for redeployment.

By the way, can somebody tell how these EMUs are transported from Chennai to Kolkata (or in this case from Kolkata to Mumbai)? Since these routes are fully electrified, do they move self-propelled?

In the US, you could easily file a DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyrights Act) online for this. Seems they are based in Mumbai, and their domain details can be found here: http://whois.domaintools.com/dnaindia.com - seems they host their nameservers with Reliance and IndiaInfo.com. Also, it seems that IndiaInfo.com is their own portal. So you may want to talk to Reliance over appropriate channels also.

I don't know how you do it in India. If DMCA works, awesome. you could simply Google for DMCA forms and take care of this. If nothing, a consumer court (core.nic.in) could be a starting point.

Indian reports are horrible in terms of plagiarizing stuff. Do it if you have the energy to take it forward.

Sue them for violating your moral right to authorship under copyright law mainly. Dont just claim your copyright is infringed. Because if you do, they will claim it as allowed under section 72 for reporting news item.
Sue for copyright infringement, but focus on your authorship rights. They cannot run away from your moral right to authorship, you can also claim distortion of work

You can find more details on net.

here is one blog article for you!
Moral Rights under Copyright Laws: A Peep into Policy

Hope that helps!

Thanks. It still would have been possible if I were in India. But I fully agree with you on this approach.

For the forthcoming Railway Budget, here are some demands:

1) Automatic Signalling in Dumdum - Naihati and Dumdum - Barasat sections

2) Kolkata (T) - Barrackpore locals every 15 minutes; so that Metro passengers can get seat from Dumdum in the evening

3) Daytime Sealdah Lalgola Passengers services replaced by MEMU services

4) Sealdah Rampurhat Passenger replaced by DEMU

5) Two pairs of peak time service between Mecheda and Sealdah through Andul Dankuni Chord line

6) Extension of Sealdah Asansol Intercity to Purulia and replacement of this service by a MEMU

7) Replacement of Howrah Azimganj Passenger by a DEMU

8) On completion of Tamluk Digha electrification, a new MEMU service from Baharampur to Digha via Dumdum and Andul (a bit far fetched, but might actually help the passengers of Murshidabad, Nadia and 24 pgs to visit Digha).

9) On completion of Rainagar Masagram line, a new DEMU service between Howrah and Bankura

I unfortunately don't agree with the MEMU/DEMU suggestions. Each of these are long routes, and travel will take 4-5 hours or more in many cases. In absence of toilets on such long journeys, DEMU/MEMU on these routes are going to be nightmares.

If they can introduce toilets in DEMU/MEMU coaches then the ideas are great though. Else, they are just going to be inhuman.

Toilets have been introduced in DEMU/MEMU about two years ago. Should you have spent 30 seconds to watch the video posted above by Bombay2Calcutta, you would have spotted the installed lavatories and ventilators in Lalgola MEMU rake. MEMUs in SER have been running with lavatories for a while.

Hope it helps.

TOI
Shatabdi-like train to NJP

KOLKATA: The first day-time train between Kolkata and New Jalpaiguri is likely to be flagged off by chief minister Mamata Banerjee on February 29. This was a long-standing demand.

It will be a Shatabdi-like train, say sources. But it is yet to be decided if it will leave from Sealdah or 'Kolkata' station in Chitpore.

The existing trains take 8-9 hours for the 573km trip. The new train could cover it in seven hours, say sources. The route will be the same as Darjeeling Mail or Padatik Express but a timing will be worked out when there is less traffic.

"We are working on the details. It will be a superfast train with few stops. The composition is not final but it will have only chair cars . The train may leave Kolkata early in the morning and reach NJP by late afternoon. The corresponding train from NJP may start in the afternoon and reach Kolkata by 10pm," an official said.

Officials feel that the train will not only be popular among professionals and businessmen but also tourists who don't find it convenient to travel by night with families.

"There are trains like the Darjeeling Mail and Padatik Express between Sealdah and NJP. In addition to this, there are several Assam-bound trains from Howrah that pass through NJP. In spite of this, there is always a rush in trains bound for NJP as it is an important business centre as well as a link to tourist destinations like Darjeeling and Sikkim. All these trains are night trains though. While some people prefer to travel overnight, there are many who would prefer to travel to and from NJP by day," an official said.

This has to be done as there are stretches in the Northeast Frontier Railway jurisdiction where doubling of tracks is required. The journey time goes up in single line sections as trains have to wait for those from the opposite direction to cross. . We already have a Shatabdi running upto Ranchi. There is also a Jan-Shatabdi running between Howrah and Patna. These trains have the same schedule (the Patna Jan-Shatabdi leaves Howrah in the afternoon) and are quite popular. The South Eastern Railway also runs a Jan-Shatabdi to Barbil from Howrah.

Hail our journalists! The first HWH NJP train was inaugurated by Ghani Khan in the name of Kanchanjunga Express. It was a true superfast then with only sitting accommodation.

This time, if they take off the Howrah Digha Duronto Service and ply the same rake up to NJP, they will do a favor. Also, it might be possible that the idle rake of Yuva Express is put into use.

Range of EMU is upto 150 Km. EMU don't go to Tatanagar, they are going maximum to Medinipur. However, there is a plan to extend EMU service to Jharhgram, like Belda.

1) Automatic signalling has already installed upto Krishnanagar & Bangaon now.

2) Metro is extending to Barrackpur, plus there are plenty EMU trains between Shialdaha & Barrackpur.

3) One MEMU has introduced to Lalgola.

4) Two DEMU are running between Barddhaman & Rampurhat.

5) VERY GOOD IDEA, I SUPPORT THAT.

6) Such long MEMU service is not possible. They could introduce a Hoarha/Shialdaha - Asansol MEMU like Haorha - Tatanagar existing MEMU. There are two Barddhaman - Purulia MEMU running.

7) One DEMU has introduced to Jangipur Road.

8) Not possible. There is a plan to replace existing DEMU by a Haorha - Digha MEMU. An express between Digha & Baharampur Court may be possible.

9) May be possible, but the line is still not ready. Exixting Bankurha - Mathnasipur DEMU may be extended upto Masagram.
