Plans for the Shenzhen Expansion seem pretty ambitious, as per other Chinese cities. What's the latest on the Octopus Card Integration?

thanks for the maps and pics. i've spent the past year watching them build Line 3 out to Longgang. The station nearest me (DaFen) has the platfrom screen doors up, and they were running some type of vehicles on the tracks/trackbed, though its hard to tell. it'll make for a great view of the district from above and be a major relief from all the traffic that currently chokes the road and makes the trip to Luoho so arduous.

Is Cantonese used in the Shenzhen metro announcements as well as Mandarin, or is only Mandarin used?

Important announcements (train is arriving, doors are closing, next station is, this station is) are done in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.

Less important announcements (keep the trains clean, give seats to needed people, so and so landmarks are accessible at this station) are mostly done in Mandarin only, sometimes English.

Still on line 3. Outrage over the crappy designs on the footbridge and stairs leading up to it.

Shenzhen, a great city still in the making as of yet... but I guess in 5 years' time or so the level of services and accessory infrastructure will be top-notch. I mean beside the nice subway that's being built.

The place is still a cultural desert, with few meaningful cultural amenities. Those will take decades to develop and cannot be rushed like physical infrastructure.
