How are the trains tied to lines? Do all lines have separate depots and maintenance workshops, or do interconnections exist to send trains to lines to match demand?

basically yes. every line has it own deport(s).

and the signalling system for each line may not be the same.

In fact, trains in Line 2 and Line 5 can run on both lines for normal operation. Trains in Line 7 and Line 9 will be able to run on both lines for normal operation.

Stations of Line 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 9 are capable to accommodate 6-car trains in Chinese size Class A.
Line 3 is capable for 6-car trains in Chinese size Class B. and it is the only line using Third rail to provide electric power.
Line 11 is capable for 8-car trains in Chinese size Class A.
-
As the trains are mostly assigned to a line only, the extreme interval is roughly set no matter what demand there will be.

Between Shenzhen and Zhuhai there's a distance. Will it be a CRH line or what?

I think all intercity lines are HSR lines as they run at speed above 200km/h.

Note that they have renumbered line 16 to line 10, so it's the Pinghu line instead of the Chiwan to Songgang one. Anyway, I knew this and line 6 are now U/C, but I didn't knew about the extensions. BTW, which extension of line 3 is U/C, the Futian Free Trade Zone one or the Pingdi one? Or both?

besides, if they connect Shenzhen and Zhuhai through the HK - Macau - Zhuhai bridge that is currently under construction, the travel time between Shenzhen and Zhuhai will be greatly reduced.

Does anybody know, when the Tram line in Longhua will open, or whether trial operation has already started?

I'm guessing they will either tunnel under the Pearl River or across the planned Shen Zhen to Zhong Shan bridge.

I doubt the HK government will agree to a link via HK , the first stage would have to be between the two airports in HK and Shen Zhen. Something they are resisting.

If it goes ahead it could lead to an intercity loop line through all airports in the region.

Below info is from Shenzhen Metro's official website, here are short and long-term plans

This one is plan for 2011-2016

Below is a longer term plan up to 2030, note the lower left corner, the black dotted intercity line split there, one direction is to Hong Kong, another direction is to Zhuhai, so they are definitely planning a shorter route to Zhuhai:
- blue lines: express services (like the S bahn in Germany)
- red lines: regular services
- black dotted lines: intercity services
- dark grey dotted lines: HSR services
- solid grey lines: surrounding city/town connections
- red dots: new transportation hubs
- pink dots: existing transportation hubs
- yellow dots: new interchange stations
- orange dots: existing interchange stations
- white dots: terminus stations

Thanks for the maps, ccdk! Are those lines expected to open on time, or have there been any delays?
