Some news about the soon to be opened Line 11 from Futian to the Shenzhen Airport and beyond.

Fare guide for Metro Line 11 revealed
Han Ximin
24th June 2016

A reading stand installed at a station on Metro Line 11.

RIDERS taking business-class carriages on Metro Line 11 need to buy orange-colored tokens at dispensers installed at stations along the line.

Those who transfer to Metro Line 11 from other lines and want to take business carriages need to buy the orange tokens before taking the train, the Shenzhen Metro Group said in a news release Thursday, explaining fare details.

Shenzhentong card users need to scan their cards at the reading stand installed on the platform before taking the business carriages. If they change their minds and don’t want to use the business carriages, which have 112 seats, they can cancel the purchase within 20 minutes at the service center.

Riders of business carriages will leave Metro stations using dedicated exits.

Those who buy tickets for regular carriages and use the business carriages will be fined 10 times the cost of the trip.

According to the fare plan approved by the city’s urban planning authority, Metro Line 11 will adopt two fare systems for six regular carriages and two business carriages.

For regular carriages, riders need to pay 2 to 10 yuan (US$0.3-1.52) for a trip along the 51.94-km line that runs through Futian, Nanshan and Bao’an districts. But for the two business carriages, the starting price is 6 yuan and the maximum price for the whole trip is 30 yuan.

After the opening of Metro Line 11, the trip from Shuanglong Station on Longgang Line to Bitou Station on Line 11 (89.7km) will cost 14 yuan. For the business carriages, the cost will 35 yuan.

The city’s Metro fare is calculated with a starting price of 2 yuan. An additional 1 yuan is added every 4 kilometers for rides between 4 kilometers and 12 kilometers. An additional 1 yuan is added to the price every 6 kilometers for rides between 12 kilometers and 24 kilometers.

For rides beyond 24 kilometers, riders pay an additional 1 yuan for a distance of 8 kilometers.

Based on this standard, the trip from Futian Station in Futian CBD to Shenzhen International Airport will cost 7 yuan for regular riders and 21 yuan for business riders.

Line 11 starts from Futian Station and ends at Bitou Station in Bao’an District.

Line 11 may be the longest single opening in China at 51 km (Larger numbers were seen in the past, but they were several lines opening at the same time). Its Northwestern terminus, Bitou, is only 17 km in a straight line from Humen Huochezhan of Dongguan metro, and 29 km from Jinzhou of Guangzhou metro.

it would seem a no brainer to connect the three metros

On that note are there any plans to extend Dongguan R2 southwards to Bitou?

I remember a couple of years ago reading an article in an overseas publication.

In effect the article accussed the government departments of mis management, corruption and incompetnece. It predicted that the then rate of construction would slow down and then eventaully stop altogether. Unsustainable and irresponsible was the basic premise of the article.

It's with some degree of irony that I watched subsequent developments in metro construction not only did the rate of construction it has actually increased over time.

Line 11 has been opened with great fanfare.

RESIDENTS HAIL OPENING OF METRO LINE 11
Shenzhen Daily

HUNDREDS of residents gathered in Metro Line 11 stations one hour before the official opening of the line at 11:18 a.m. yesterday to board the train for the maiden trip, which gave riders a picturesque sea view.

At the Futian Station in Futian CBD, the starting point of the trip, a local resident surnamed Xia said he had waited for more than half an hour before the sale of tickets started at 11 a.m.

“Earlier this morning I took Line 1 to get medical treatment in Luohu District and I want to take Line 11 back home,” said Xia, who lives in Shajing Subdistrict, Bao’an District.

“Line 11 runs faster and what is important is that it is a maiden ride,” Xia said.

Another resident surnamed Deng told Shenzhen Daily that he had hoped the line could have been opened two years ago when the new terminal T3 of Shenzhen International Airport was put into operation at the end of 2013.

“This line has been long anticipated as it links the airport with Nanshan and Futian CBDs,” Deng said.

Line 11, also known as the airport express line, has a maximum speed of 120 kilometer per hour and an average speed of 65 km per hour. The trip from Futian CBD to the airport takes 29 minutes.

The opening of the 51.9-kilometer line from Futian CBD to Songgang in Bao’an District, via Nanshan District and the airport, brings the total length of the city’s Metro network to 230 kilometers. It links the city’s eight areas including Chegongmiao, OCT Bay, Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base, Houhai, Nanshan CBD, Qianhai and the airport.

As a key project of the Phase III Metro network construction in Shenzhen, Line 11 cost 31.3 billion yuan (US$4.6 billion) and took more than four years to be completed.

Metro Line 11 operates between 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. at 10-minute intervals.

“We will gradually shorten intervals as passengers increase. In the future, the interval will be shortened to 2 minutes and 30 seconds,” Zhang Zhongan, chief designer with the Construction Headquarters of Shenzhen Metro Group, said in an interview yesterday, after the launch ceremony.

By 6 p.m. yesterday, nearly 44,000 people took the new line. During the period, the Chegongmiao Station recorded the largest passenger flow, followed by the Airport Station, Shajing Station, Nanshan Station and Songgang Station, according to the Metro company.

Yes, this has been a long term goal to connect PRD metro systems by the Guangdong government.

That was possibly for the trial running between 18 and 28 July? The whole thing was well and truly functioning when I took it today.

this figure of 230 km is wrong!
As Dimlys link explains the line opened with only 4 stations to the Airport.
the 51,7 km wiht 17 stations covers the full length until Bitou at the Dongguan city border. this means lucking about 30 % of the total length now.

The ENTIRE 51.7km-long Line 11 with 18 stations from Futian to Bitou is opened on 28th of June 2016 in one go.

There are Chegongmiao, Hongshuwan South, Houhai, Nanshan, Qianhaiwan, Bao'an and Bihaiwan stations between Futian and Airport , which are 9 stations including Futian station and Airport station.

Bitou station is in Shenzhen, not quite in Dongguan yet.

The Shenzhen Metro network now is 230km in operation.

Nice try.

I thought that there are four stations in operation, until you made your eyewitness account, which is very useful. But then, how you can explain these maps - one - on station, the other - on train? Half of stations are in grey. What do you think?

The reason those stations are in gray is because that is a photo of the inbound side of the Airport platform. Trains that stop on the inbound track don't serve the outbound stations, so those stations are in grey.

Presumably the other (outbound) side of the Airport platform will have all the inbound stations in grey.

this is another example how fast a misunderstanding can come up!

However I don't wrote that Bitou station is in Dongguan! it is in Sz but close to the border to Dongguan. But it is planned to connect to Dongguan Metro line 2. In about 5 Years it will be possible to enter a metro train in Hong Kong and travel with some intersections via Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou to Foshan!

however the note of all stations in the trains is no indicator that all are open to public. such signs are always designe for the full service.
