It would be fun to see the height reduced on the thread title.

Of course, soon it will be Seattle's tallest building ever demolished. What was the first skyscraper got razed in Seattle?

I've lived here 20 years. The tallest I remember, and the only one imploded, was the old Waldorf Hotel where now sits Pacific Place (or was it Niketown?) built back in the mod 90s. Anyone else remember any others?
Then again, there's the Kingdome! |

I remember passing by that tower many times...I'm surprised that building was built in a hurry or was poorly built. Dang those contractors. Shoddy construction is embarrassing in the US.

Looks like heavy demo on the parking garage structure could begin very soon(there's a "claw" machine there now).

I read an article that for a few weeks they'll be salvaging bathroom and kitchen fixtures (doors too I assume) in the main tower, but that the garage could come down while they do that.

This thread may lose some steam over time, but here's where you can get weekly updates to their progress: http://www.lewisbuilds.com/construct...ing-demolition

yeah I saw that project page recently too - pretty good info for neighbors. I think there's plenty to track in this thread for awhile even though it will take some time: complete the garage demo, put the crane up, see where the manlift ends up and of course the start of tower demolition. It will be weird to track the demise of a high-rise!

Feel sorry for the neighbors who'll have to put up with all these loud crunching and crashing noises all day.

Cool video! What was the structure on top of the garage and why does it appear to have mud near it?
EDIT: I answered my own question. You can see it here at about 21 seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSRDA...eature=related As for the complaints, I feel for the neighbors as it is really loud but what else can be done? You want to live in the densest parts of a city then you have to put up with noise. My apartment in Brooklyn was on the intersection of a busy road (Bushwick Ave) and a road used by a lot of industrial traffic. The roads were in horrible shape too so we would hear semis, trucks and cars crash across the tire grooved and torn road 24 hours a day. Not to mention the typical NYC honking and yelling and condos/apartments under construction across the street. It wasn't ideal but I knew what I signed up for when I moved to a dense city. it was worth it for me because I lived upstairs from a subway entrance. You want the convenience of Belltown then deal with the noises and commotion.
