Illegitimate child of Airbus and Boeing. Like B787 (nose section), A320 (fuselage and wings), A350 (winglets) had some drunk hardcore threesome.

Leehamnews posted a good analysis on this website why the C919 won't be too much competition for Airbus and Boeing.

http://leehamnews.com/2015/11/04/no-...-a-generation/

the main points:
- The economics aren't as good as the A320neo and 737 MAX.
- There will probably be even more delays.
- The production ramp up won't be as fast that it will be able to compete with 5 planes a month, when both Airbus and Boeing will built 60+ A320s and 60+ 737s month at the end of this decade.

But having said that, it could be just the start of an industry in China that will slowly become more and more competitive with every new program they announce.

It is exactly that. Making fun of this aircraft is like making fun of the first Japanese cars, or the first Taiwanese phones.

Actually this is so true, when the first Japanese products apperared they were rubbished . They same with the Koreans and the Taiwanese products were they came along. I guess the derision aimed at the Chinese will eventualy be aimed at the Indians or Indonesians whenever or if ever they decide to start competing
in the global marketplace.

They say that preception is reality for most people. That saying maybe true but the two are usually not inclusive of each other.
The anti Chinese bais is part idealogical part racial but doesn't change the reality that this project along with subsequent ones will get off the ground.

C919 is never meant to be competition to Airbus and Boeing on the global market, it's geared toward the Chinese domestic market. Every plane Chinese airlines bought is one less plane Airbus or Boeing sold, so in that sense Comac is already a competitor.

Let's see which one flies first - 919 or MS-21.

Looking forward to both the birds!

I didn't notice the link until you pointed it out, it looked like the photo url. Maybe Patel Sahib made the same mistake.

Any interior pictures or floor/seating plans or anything? I wonder whether this plane will have any USP on that

COMAC
Some Chinese knockoff aircraft. I hadn't heard of COMAC before but they seem to be doing alright and I'll be watching them with interest.

China's aviation expansion ambitions
12 July 2016 Last updated at 10:18 BST
One country that is storming into the global aviation market is China, which has been developing cut-price rivals to the airliners and drones produced in the West.
China wants to increase earnings from aircraft building tenfold, to one trillion yuan (£115bn; $150bn) a year. How can it be so hopeful?
Video journalist: Jeremy Howell
www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-36768278

COMAC have sold 500 C919 jets to airlines in 21 countries.

21 countries? Where is this number coming from? So far, the bulk of orders are from Chinese companies. There are also orders from one USA and one Thai company. Thus, 3 countries on the order list.
