What is Soh and how did it come to be?

Soh is an exclave of Uzbekistan comprising about 350 square kilometers along the Soh River. It is completely surrounded by Kyrgyzstan's Batken Oblast. Although the territory is disputed between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, its population of less than 60,000 people is overwhelmingly Tajik and other nationalities.

Uzbekistan raises tax on foreign cigarettes

TASHKENT – Uzbekistan raised its excise tax on imported tobacco products as the country's 2013 budget, signed by President Islam Karimov, went into effect on January 1, UzDaily reported January 3.

The tax increase affects cigarette prices which rose to US $18.20 (36,000 UZS) from US $13 (26,000 UZS) per 1,000 cigarettes.

Uzbekistan to introduce university rating system

A trip to Uzbekistan
Have just returned from a trip to Uzbekistan.
An amazing country, great views and lovely people.
Hope that many more tourists will visit Uzbekistan in the coming years.
There are certainly a lot to see.

Below you will find a few of my snaps from the trip. Hope it is ok to post them in this thread !



















As you might be able tell from the pictures - I really had an amazing time picking out great motifs - that seemed to pop out everywhere. Wonderful stuff.
