Leeds, UK

- Leeds is one of the largest cities in the UK, with a populatioin of over 750,000 and well over 2 million in its metro area.

- It started as a market town in the medieval period, but grew rapidly in the Industrial Revolution and the Victorian period, and this is echoed in its architecture which remains predominantly of this period.

- The world's earliest known moving pictures were shot by Frenchman, Louis Le Prince, in the suburb of Roundhay, and from Leeds Bridge in the centre in 1888.

- Famous 'Loiners' include:

Marco Pierre White, the youngest chef to receive three michelin stars.
Corinee Bailey Rae, the musician.
Jeremy Paxman, TV Presenter.
and Scary Spice :P

Financial Leeds

City Square

Leeds is one of the premier financial hubs in the UK, especially in Legal Services.

Excellent pics! Was studying at the University of York until 2008 and used to come out to Leeds quite often. Lots of memories.

Like most cities it has its good bits and its bad bits, the majority of the retail core is well preserved and a large part of the financial district too, most new developments are occuring on the fringes of the centre.

Cheers. Did a bit exploring in Google Maps and the city looks quite well-preserved. Leeds is definitely a city I'd like to visit.
