Old small roof=dismantled
Lower tier=demolished Portion of upper tier=demolished Now for the playing area to be lowered for the new lower tier.

I've been looking at this wondering about the practicality of what they're doing here. Surely knocking the whole thing down and starting over is a much more cost effective way of redeveloping the stadium?

Um 1,000s of cubic meters of reinforced concrete is retained, that goes a long ways towards reducing costs, no new formwork, rebar, precast elements ect needed for half of the structure. It does add some constraints in terms of design possibilities but other than the Maracana the rest of the renovations (especially Castelao) seem very sensible in terms of scope, amenities, appearance and and cost, to me at least.

I thought it would have more progress by now... It's going VERY well, and it's gonna be one of the best when it's done, but I had no idea demolition would take place.

![]() Yes, this is a somewhat exaggerated, however, fans of Ceara and Fortaleza are fanatics, then you can have an average attendance of more than 30,000 in the stadium, which would make it sustainable. |

Hope the new seats aren't spaced out like that, though. Or will they?

![]() Of course, the seats will be installed more closer between them. The image only shows the selected models and colour. |
