D.C. streetcars to be running by week of Jan. 19, Mayor Gray says
December 31, 2014 - 05:53 am

WASHINGTON (WJLA) – The District made it official Wednesday morning: the streetcar won’t be opening in 2014.

7 On Your Side learned New Year’s Eve that no one in D.C. government seems to know when the streetcar will open. But what they do know is the project has already cost District taxpayers $123 million for 2 miles of track on H Street.

Despite years of delays, setbacks and funding issues, Mayor Gray has maintained it would be running by the end of 2014. And they held out hope, until Wednesday.

“I only see the empty car running all the time,” commented H Street resident Hanna Jang. “How many times do they need to practice?”

For residents of H Street in D.C., the streetcar saga continues.
“It’s too expensive,” said another resident. “The money can go better to other things in the city.”

For its latest investigation, the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating an incident right beneath its headquarters, where a passenger asphyxiated due to a smoky condition aboard a train near L'Enfant Plaza station.

D.C. Streetcars Won't Meet Jan. 19 Deadline
Thursday Jan 15, 2015

Just days before former D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray left office, he set yet another deadline for the D.C. Streetcar to debut -- the week of Jan. 19.

News4 has learned that goal will not be met.

Newly-inaugurated D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has supported the streetcar project in her time as council member, but said she wants to rethink transportation plans and increasingly tight construction budgets for everything.

"We know we have ballooning construction costs in some of our big priority projects and a shrinking borrowing capacity that will force us to make tough choices," she said during her inaugural speech last weekend

Another embarrassment. Right there with Samara. At least the new DC Mayor has enough brains to shut down the expansion of this insane streetcar.

Considering that it's spurring development all along the corridor, it's hardly insane.

And she's just saying that they need to delay expansion until funds grow.

What's Samara, btw?

even I've got to admit that the current handling of the streetcar is pathetic.

A city in Russia that was supposed to open its one-station metro extension last December and the opening date gets moved every couple days in January (still hasn't opened, just like DC Streetcar).

It's actually become quite hilarious how the capital of the world's largest economy keeps pushing the snooze button on its tram.

D.C. streetcar 'flash fire' probed, Bowser says it won't open until it's safe
News February 22, 2015 - 03:53 pm

WASHINGTON (AP/WJLA) - A "flash fire" atop a streetcar in D.C. during simulated service has prompted an investigation.

The fire ignited about 11:45 p.m. on Saturday atop of a streetcar on the 2.2-mile-long H Street/Benning Road NE streetcar line. The streetcar immediately stopped after going into "fail-safe mode," power to the overhead lines was shut off and the streetcar was towed to a nearby maintenance yard.

The District's Department of Transportation said the fire was an "isolated incident" but did not disclose the cause. Simulated service resumed Sunday

What an embarrassment. Surprised this isn't being turned into a propaganda piece by Kremlin media. Right in the capital of what they call Pindostan.

You know a transit project is Awful when an entire liberal/ultra pro transit city hates it, and nobody would care if you went full John Cranley on it.

They have been repeatedly missing the deadline to get it opened. Once they finally allow the system to open to passengers, it will become popular and loved by the city. The same has already happened with the other varying streetcar systems across the country.

That may be true for Tucson and Portland, but can anyone say that about Atlanta?

2015.03.09 - service expansion on MARC Camden Line

Baltimore Sun

MTA expands Camden Line MARC service to bolster university connections
By Kevin Rector
The Baltimore Sun

March 3, 2015 3:50 PM

Additional weekday MARC train service will be added to the Camden Line next week as part of an initiative to boost connections between University of Maryland's campuses in Baltimore and College Park, the Maryland Transit Administration said Tuesday.

The service expansion, which starts Monday, will add additional eastbound service in the mornings and afternoons between Washington's Union Station, College Park and Baltimore's Camden Station.

It will also add some eastbound and westbound service in the afternoons between Dorsey Station off Route 100 in Howard County and College Park and Union Station.

An additional morning train will depart Washington's Union Station at 7:40 a.m. and arrive at College Park at 7:50 a.m., before continuing east to the Camden Station in Baltimore.

The train that regularly departs Union Station at 5:53 p.m. will add a stop in College Park at 6:04 p.m., closing what is currently a 1 hour 30 minute gap in service to College Park.

An additional eastbound train will depart Union Station at 3:30 p.m. and will operate to Dorsey Station. An additional westbound train will depart Dorsey Station for Union Station at 4:45 p.m.

The university launched an initiative between the two campuses called "MPowering the State" after the state legislature charged it in 2011 with boosting its economic impact on the state.

As part of that effort, the university said it envisioned "a new working relationship" between the two campuses that "demands teamwork and collaboration, with joint efforts championed and supported at the highest levels in our academic structure."

The MTA said it is introducing the expanded service "in response to customer requests to handle increased ridership."

Well we have to try and be accepting of others. Many people have fetishes, and getting off on seeing trains covered in snow and ice really isn't that different from being a "furry", cuckolding, or having a foot fetish. To each his own, live and let live, and so on.
