ok, my area of expertise....EMP sub contracts, i hear that the sub contact D-L mentioned wil never be filled in time as JAM are oveerworked as it is, they are trying to find a contractor to do this for them, but nobody in dubai has the spare capacity to do a job this complex.

unless there is a miricle....add 6 months to the completion date

What Dubai lacks is long nice beachside promenades.

They are focusing on the indoor (malls) more than the outdoor (promenades) since malls are the real $$$ makers.

Yeah but the problem is the weather here in summer is a killer so that's why they focus on malls

Singapore companies to build world's largest shopping mall in Dubai
By Wong Siew Ying, Channel NewsAsia

A group of Singapore companies has embarked on building the world's largest shopping mall in Dubai.

Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong was briefed on the landmark project during his visit to the region on Monday.

It is being touted as a modern super-mall that embodies the charms of traditional Arab bazaars.

The four-storey Dubai Mall will be built by 18 firms from Singapore at a cost of S$1.5 billion and cover 85 acres.

DP Architects says the mall's design is one of its most adventurous yet given the sheer size of the project.

Ti Lian Seng, Design Director, DP Architects, said: "It has almost 5 and half million square feet of shopping area, it's how to deal with the vastness of the project, how to draw people to the site, and once they're there, how to keep them interested and go through all corners of the site."

The architects visited some malls in other major cities to study their layout, design and retail trends.

When completed in 2007, the Dubai Mall will house some 1,200 stores and will offer 5 times as much retail space compared to the Suntec City Mall.

The massive shopping complex will also have 14,000 car park lots.

One of the highlights will be the world's largest aquarium right in the centre of the atrium.

Shoppers will able to go ice-skating and bowling or even watch movies at any of the 15 cinemas.

And all that glitter is probably gold at this re-creation of Dubai's famous Souk, the biggest indoor gold market in the world. - CNA

Apparently so, it's huge, don't be surprised by the number of developers.

You'll need hours or a a full day to check out the attractions. I remember the Eaton Center in Toronto took ages to check out, 600 stores or so and this one has double.
