24 - Wells Fargo Center - Estados Unidos

Minneapolis
1988

Quote:
The Wells Fargo Center, formerly known as Norwest Center, is the third-tallest building in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after the IDS Center and the Capella Tower. Completed in 1988, it is 774 feet (235.6 m) tall. For many years, this was believed to be one foot shorter than Capella, but that structure actually had a different height. Norwest Center was designed with a modernized art deco style by César Pelli, reflecting nearby structures such as the nearby Qwest Building and the Foshay Tower, which is several blocks away. It is also considered by many to be a homage to the GE Building at New York City's Rockefeller Center.

Wells Fargo Center sits on the site of the old Northwestern National Bank Building, which was destroyed in a fire in 1982. Northwestern National, renamed Norwest, maintained its headquarters here. Despite Norwest's adoption of the Wells Fargo identity after acquiring the latter and moving to San Francisco in 1998, regional operations are still maintained in this building.

It is brilliantly lit at night, with floodlamps pointing up from the setback rooftops to illuminate the sides of the building. Despite this, it is still much more energy efficient than the previous building and in 2000, it was recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency‎ as one of the 100 most energy efficient buildings in the USA. In 1989, the building was praised by the Urban Land Institute, who honored it with their Award for Excellence in Large Scale Office Development. It is located at 90 South 7th Street. Gaviidae Common, a neighboring shopping center, was also designed by Pelli and built at the same time.

25 - Cira Center - Estados Unidos

Philadelphia
2005

Quote:
The Cira Centre is a 29-story, 133 meters silver glass curtain wall skyscraper. The skyscraper sits next to 30th Street Station in the University City neighborhood in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The US$180 million Cira Centre was designed by architect Cesar Pelli. Bower Lewis Thrower Architects coordinated the design team and designed Cira Centre's core and neighboring parking garage. The building was designed to be seen from all sides with the northwest and southeast corners removed giving the Cira Centre a different shape when viewed from different directions.

A pedestrian bridge designed by Bower Lewis Thrower crosses Arch Street linking the Cira Centre with 30th Street Station. The bridge connects the Cira Centre's lobby with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority regional rail section.

The lighting design was done by Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design. Cira Centre's architects did not want any light fixtures protruding from the building so Cline Bettridge Bernstein decided to create a wall of light using LEDs. The 26W RGB LED fixtures are hidden in shadow boxes behind the glass curtain wall and are obscured during the day by the building's reflective glass. The LED lights are able to be changed color to create different patterns and effects on the building's facade. Designs used on the building include a large "P" for the Philadelphia Phillies. White 0.12W LEDs lights are also used in the lobby and building's elevators. In the lobby the white LEDs are mounted on the 15 m tall wall that separates the lobby from the neighboring parking garage.
