I saw something exactly like this in that exact spot on Saturday. It was a Polish lorry. Though Lithuanian ones can be just as bad.

The amount of crazy stuff that I see on roads both in Poland and Lithuania is decreasing very rapidly every year though, which is great to see.

Driving a right hand drive car only matters when you are overtaking. It is good that I had Pansori next to me so it didn't really matter much at all. It does get quite annoying when you drive on your own though. Overtaking becomes very dangerous.

Then from interchange Konotopa (small village near Warsaw) there will be 2 freeways S8 & S2 (south Warsaw bypass). S8 will go through Warsaw and then will be connected to existing 40 km S8 in Radzymin.

S8 will go next from Wyszków to Zambrów - which S8 bypass is built (05 2012) and later you went by DK 61 - which will be Via Baltica from Ostrów Mazowiecka to Augustów and later to PL/ LT border in Budzisko.

So in couple of years road from german border to Vilnus will be only motorways and freeways - all 2x2 minimum.
I don't think that this is true, unless I have missed something. My last knowledge was that there was no set construction start date for Via Baltica and the project was only half-approved. People were predicting start date somewhere in 2015. Did I miss something?

P.S. We would've had Via Baltica by now if not for the NIMBYs. Look, they are even receiving awards these days! LOL!

I had an interesting situation like this somewhere along the E28 near Gdansk a few years ago. Stuck behind a tractor with load of oncoming traffic, as soon as it cleared the tractor pulled aside for everyone to overtake. At the same time 6 vehicles tried to overtake, including us. I floored it to get past, but saw in the mirror a car overtaking a lorry overtaking a lorry overtaking a car overtaking a tractor, all at the same time. It took up the whole width of the road for a few seconds and turned a 2x1 road into a 1x5 road.

Now that's some stressful driving!

The guys behind the camera sound like having an orgasm... "Yessssss!", "Jeszcze, jeszcze!"

[...] the best road of all during our 2100km long trip. The surface was perfectly smooth and apart from some very smooth turns it went in a straight line for large part of the distance so making the driving exceptionally comfortable and stress-free. Traffic intensity also seemed very low which made things even better. [...]

Continuing to Warsaw. This is the kind of road we used for most part (2).

I'm back in London now and I have a pile of photos from Lithuanian roads of all kinds. I'll try to process them asap.

Thanks!

No I flew back. It was a tiring journey and I'm not sure if I'd ever want to repeat it. Perhaps with longer stops and more explorations of cities and places on the way.

I think Pansori has made this picture in the place where the National Road 2 crosses with the expressway S-8 (black circle on the map). I guess this orange flyover in the picture is future expressway S-8. Warsaw section of S-8 is currently under construction but it will bring the traffic from motorway A-2 into Warsaw and will lead farther to north-eastern Poland like Pansori drove to Lithuania.

Great info, thanks. Yes the road near that viaduct was U/C. Can't wait for that to happen. Driving from Germany towards Lithuania will besome so much better (albeit a little expensive ).

Dead but still interesting. I'll look through it again when I have time, which I wouldn't have done if it had sat back where it was.
