Have they removed yet more portal sections, or have more new ones arrived on site? As of today, (4/9), I now count 9 sections laying around.

Yeah, they have been removing more and looks like another one (10) is coming out. Not looking good!

They have now removed both of the tents covering the stairwells.

So in that amount of time there has been a net gain of TWO installed.

I have been watching them work on the area immediately adjacent to the temporary PATH station (South) - and it appears they are covering up more of the open space here and preparing for a pour. I am always glad to see more of the hole closed in, and this hopefully also says something about the progress underneath.

Here is a (hopefully) better view of the "mystery frame" at the WORLD TRADE CENTER TRANSPORTATION HUB:

That looks awfully fancy and well-built (also quite tall) for a temporary welding shelter. Of course, since money doesn't seem to be a constraint on this project it could be. On the other hand, it doesn't look substantial enough compared to other parts of this project to be something permanent. Hopefully wherever it's used will be visible.

I noticed this as well, I was wondering if this will form the way from the temporary PATH station to the eastern railway tracks, once they are in service. Maybe Otie knows more?

I think originally the two most eastern tracks were scheduled for the end of the year, but have been pushed back a few months due to Sandy. Would be great to have some updated pics from inside of the station..

WTC Takes Shape from Towers to Tunnels

Quote:
The sub-grade portion of the tower also ties into the "east-west connector," the pedestrian tunnel that will link the World Financial Center to the temporary Vesey Street PATH station in late 2013, and to the WTC Transportation Hub in 2014.

Brathwaite reported that steel "ribs" for the Hub are largely complete on the lower levels, and this spring installation of the larger steel members will begin -- forming the first Santiago Calatrava-designed elements visible above the fence line at the WTC site. That installation will continue through the summer, with oversized-steel nighttime deliveries coordinated with several city agencies via the Manhattan Bridge, Broadway, and Fulton Street.

So basically if the updates correct the east-west connector will be for use to the public by the end of this year? Cool

Looks like they've begun reinstalling some of the portals. Hopefully a good sign that they fixed the problem.

Correct, just below the south area of temporary access work is ongoing on the North Fan Plant,

Platform A (serving the eastern most track) was supposed to be turned over by the end of 4Q 2013, but -as you said- it has been pushed back several months due to Sandy recovery efforts. An escalator truss was already ready to work but was severly damaged so it needed to be removed and replaced by a completely newer one, cladding is ongoing on several sections and all of these particular fixtures are being installed (stuff including speakers, LED signage, antennas, etc.)

Above Platform A, the coating contractor is continuing work on the roof Calatrava arches, once the job is complete, ceiling modules and light fixtures will begin to be placed in order to turnover the whole Platform A.

Storefront installation has just begun!!!!

As for the model, been busy lately. But I've been asking around about detailed things about the plaza finishes. There's going to be some ground electrical outlets at the Oculus plaza!! One of the sketches by the landscape architect suggested public events being celebrated at Oculus plaza, so it's not strange seeing this kind of things that allows easy access to electrical power.

This is getting quite detailed

PS. More abutment pieces arrived to Port Redhook, steel deliveries being coordinated at meetings with NYC departments.

Is there supposed to be a new crane going up soon? I'm starting to see some white mast sections for a crane by the northwest main staircase. And can someone explain to me what those rather large cage-like structures are by Church St.? (I believe someone asked that earlier, but I couldn't find it or the answer)

On the webcam currently, I can see what appears to be a completely new kind of piece of steel, which we haven't seen kicking around the site before. Exciting times!
