Is that finally the first above ground section for the Transit Hub?

Is there a set date that they are scheduled to begin above grade abutment installation?

Looks like all the portals are installed.

Now it looks like a giant zipper.

From WTCProgress,

"When complete, retail store fronts will line this hallway in the WTC Transportation Hub."

Here is a diagram by Otie that should help you out.

*Where arch segment reads, it should say "transition segment"[/QUOTE]

I'd like to know why they chose to call them portals. Ribs seem more fitting.

por·tal (pôrtl, pr-)
n.
1. A doorway, entrance, or gate, especially one that is large and imposing.
2. An entrance or a means of entrance: the local library, a portal of knowledge.
3. The portal vein.
4. A website considered as an entry point to other websites, often by being or providing access to a search engine.
adj.
1. Of or relating to the portal vein or the portal system.
2. Of or relating to a point of entrance to an organ, especially the transverse fissure of the liver, through which the blood vessels enter.

Earlier in this thread, I have seen the pieces often called "portals" referred to as "portal frames", which I think is a technically more accurate term. The "portals" are the openings/glass which will be between the pieces awaiting installation. The large steel pieces "frame" the portals.

Yes, the correct term is "portal frame", I don't know why it was designated as such.

oli, those pieces on Zippy's photos are located on axis -14 and will form in conjunction with other pieces a single piece known as the west abutment or west entrance.

The skylight ends meet this pieces and I think there's an horizontal member that will connect both north and south pieces on the inner side, will try and make a rendering to show.

You see the orange plate? Temporary bracing will be placed between north and south pieces until the abutment is ready to receive some loads on it. This temporary bracing holding both north and south will be placed every 4 transition segments as installation moves from the outside to the center.
