[BWTC mall tipped to become Westfield's crown jewel][/B]
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/busi...-1226679823196

Quote:
WESTFIELD Group's major development project in the US, the World Trade Centre retail complex, could become the company's most productive asset globally, according to one of the property sector's top analysts.

Just back from a visit to the hulking development, CLSA real estate investment trust analyst John Kim said in a note to clients that the jewel in the crown of the WTC development was the company's right to lease the iconic Oculus, the striking 74,000sq m main concourse of the new rail station. The Oculus includes two wings capable of hosting exhibitions and public events.

Mr Kim was also impressed by the rate of growth in the white-collar workforce surrounding the site -- known as Ground Zero after the September 11 terror attacks in 2001 -- and the growing affluence of the nearby residential areas.

Westfield won the development rights to remake the centre and is ploughing $US625 million ($685m) into the expansion. It holds a 50 per cent stake in the development.

"When Westfield originally purchased the retail lease at WTC in 2001, the centre had over $US900 per square foot in sales. Adjusted for inflation, this translates to $US1184 in sales per square foot, well above Westfield's sales in the US of $US485 per square foot last year," Mr Kim said.

"Westfield Sydney had the highest sales last year for the company at $15,660 per square metre or $US1324 per square foot."

Mr Kim noted that the $US900/sq ft in sales was achieved before WDC took over management of the World Trade Centre retail precinct.

"The dynamics in the area are considerably stronger today, particularly the residential catchment," he said.

The positive outlook comes not long after Westfield issued a first-quarter update in early May that showed sales at its 47 US centres had grown by 5 per cent across the three-month period. This compared with flatter growth of 0.1 per cent at its Australian centres for the same period.

The company is expecting to book funds from operations of 66.5c per security and distribute 51c a security for calendar 2013.

There has been speculation in both the Australian and US press that the company may look to divest a 25 per cent stake of the World Trade Centre development to help fuel its $12bn development pipeline.

Should we petition Earthcam to get the Oculus camera working again?

I REALLY don't buy this "technical issues" excuse. We have satelites flying outside the Solar System, cars and planes that drive themselves, machine that see inside our bodies, but it takes MONTHS to fix a webcam?!??!

Let's send them a e-mail through Facebook...

What kind of problem do you have with the Oculus cam? I read something about it some weeks ago, but it has been working for me every time I checked (which means every day ).

You only have to use the direct links, but this is much more convenient anyway, especially on smartphones..

I have a feeling that the Oculus Cam, like James Bond, will return.

I just don't know when the Oculus Cam will return, though Bond will be back in November, 2014.

Correct, mobile crane will be for tree rigging, the crane was needed to reach distant spots.

Mesabi thermal paving has begun at 4WTC facing Greenwigh St. It will eventually extend all the way to T2.

You have to refresh the page to get an updated picture, however, a new picture is provided only every 15 minutes or so.

From WTC Progress on Facebook, a few days old, but nice perspective..
