If I take the 1 train from Columbia University to the Cortlandt Street / World Trade Center IRT station a few years from now, will I be able to exit the southbound platform directly into the shopping mall (while remaining indoors)? If so, can I enter the mall from either the northern or southern ends of the platform? I'm guessing that a pedestrian underpass will be necessary, similar to the one connecting the northbound and southbound platforms of the BMT (R) Cortlandt Street station.
No, the southbound exit directs you to the Memorial plaza, just east to the south pool.

It never was...only ever connection was the foot bridge to the plaza in the original.

I'm curious, The WTC Transit Hub has been said to be connected to the Fulton Transit Center as well. I'm assuming there's an underground concourse, but I've never seen the entire layout of this. Has anyone else seen such a thing anywhere?

You're talking about the passageway under Dey street, connecting the Fulton Center with the East entrance of the Hub.

There a nice animation rendering from Brookfield on that too...

Is it me, or has the crane at 3 WTC grown a bit? Maybe things are going to start up again?

I think that is just an illusion, it's still the same, moreover, I didn't see any crane nearby which could have placed new pieces on top.

But the northern piece of the dome over the south entrance has been placed, now the centerpiece is next, which is waiting inside the oculus!

A relatively older pic from the 3WTC forum, showing the West entrance...
