Looks like they have started painting a transition segment that is sitting in the oculus. It's so white it glows.

It looks like they are running out of positioned upper portals to set transition segments on.

Am I even close to correct with those terms? LOL

Yep, right terminology. I was wrong about paint, it must have been some kind of sheet.

Time for setting up new upper portals, they have been rearranged yesterday, hopefully for being lifted today!

The first transition segment with bolts instead of welds connecting the arch is visible next to tower 2! I'm excited for the increase in speed we'll certainly see on the coming weeks.

Is that because its a lot quicker to bolt them than weld them?

If so, why are some bolted and some welded? Are they bearing less load?

I thought that they were all bolted initially to hold them in place while the welding was done. After the welding is complete the bolted plates are removed.

Lots of new upper portals are arriving, right on time before they are running out of them..

Question: do they also need to fill the central area of the oculus with scaffoldings etc. or is this not necessary since the connections require only bolts and no welding here?

Maybe I'm missing something or my perspective is off but those entrances look too small for rush hour pedestrian traffic.

I do not think you can really grasp how big these pieces are without someone standing beside it. The entrances are very large traffic will not be a problem at all.

They've been moving so fast lately I hope they keep it up! 3 new upper portals in today with another for the day going in right now. Still have such a ways until it's fully formed though :/

Completely agree. I was down there a couple of weeks ago, and its the size of this thing that really gets you. Same can be said for the scale of the entire WTC site, but this thing is huge.

The current transition segment is VERY close to the tower of the eastern crane, I guess that's the reason for this
