Apparently so, but I'm not clear where the eastern end of this winds up.

Does it stay deep and wind up at one of the lower levels of the PATH?

Or does it come up to surface level inside the temporary PATH headhouse?

This photo from the tribecacitizen doesn't really explain it to fully to me:

But oli83's statement a couple of pages back leads me to believe you come back up to surface level in the temp headhouse, which implies that leaving the WFC you go down, walk a few hundred feet east, climb back up into the headhouse and then climb back down to the PATH platforms...:

Eastern entrance is the temporary PATH station, western entrance the entry pavilion of the WFC (http://brookfieldplaceny.com)

This new section should also quicken the commute from the east side of downtown to Brookfield Place, if they're walking, instead of having to walk around the construction site or WTC7 and that old building.

You do not come to surface level. The temporary entrance into the PATH station drops you on the mezzanine level of the PATH station, outside the fare gates but at the bottom of the escalators to the surface.

(Also, the left photo from wtcforever is not the old tunnel. It's the current temporary PATH station. You come out of the this tunnel at the base of those escalators, behind where the photographer is standing. The fare gates to the PATH are on the right.)

Thanks for the explanation.

And "the left photo from wtcforever is not the old tunnel. It's the current temporary PATH station." you're referring to is this photo, correct?:

Any idea when the IRT Cortlandt St station will reopen? And when it does will it have a connection to this mezzanine level ?

Yes, referring to that photo.

As to the IRT Cortlandt St station, no idea. I assume it will reopen around the same time as the Transportation Hub, so 2015.

The current connection to the PATH mezzanine is temporary, as is the mezzanine itself. The whole thing will be rebuilt over the next two years as the hub approaches completion, and the temporary PATH entrance on Vesey St will eventually be shuttered and demolished once the hub opens. The Brookfield connector will connect to the rebuilt mezzanine when it opens, and onward to the hub through the eastern half of the connector.

Here's a map of the underground structures around the station. The part that's open here is only the area west of the "PATH hall", which will be the rebuilt PATH mezzanine, plus a temporary connector to the current temporary mezzanine.

Thanks for posting the wikimapia plan diagram. It also helps to understand the relationship of the open east-west connector/west Concourse, the shops & 1 WTC.

The diagram shows a "connection to subway" at the SW corner of 3 WTC.

Is that an in-building "connection to subway" or an on-street entrance, or??

Thanks.

So the blue dot "connection to subways" are below ground connections at the B1 level to subways, is that correct?

For example, at the-opening-soon 4WTC you'd enter the "retail podium", take the escalators/stairs down to the B1 (1st level below street?) and then walk through the blue dot in the east side of 4WTC to get to the already open BMT Cortlandt St station?

Do you know what the color coding of the various levels are, if there is any consistency?

I think the color-coding on there is done by ownership/management, with the darker colors around the towers showing that those tunnels will be owned/run by Silverstein while the lighter-colored tunnels will be owned/run by the Port Authority. (I'm colorblind, so describing the colors is not so easy.)

The below may help a bit. The West Concourse passes over the PATH platforms (through the PATH hall, which is above the platforms as a mezzanine), then the ceiling dips to pass under the platforms for the 1 (just west of the oculus on the chart, close to the surface), then into the oculus.

Thanks. Is there a larger, more readable, version?

Yes that is correct. It looks like it's a file from the retail program documents. Yellow describes areas for public walkways, green refers for HVAC/MEP/EMERGENCY EGRESS/TENANT WALKAYS infrastructure, blue for retail and red for trains.

New upper portals arrived on site. Since there are no signs that they start erecting scaffoldings in the center of the oculus, I assume this will not be needed for the bolted parts to come. This could also speed up construction

I think the bolting vs. welding is only referring to the connections between adjacent arch segments. It looks like the connections between upper portals and transition segments, and between the transition segments and rafters, will all be welded. If you look at the newest portals they still have the red on the ends.

@uakoops: Seems you're right. Do you think they need to place scaffolding in the rest of the oculus, or could they possible do this with the cherrypickers?

Are the escalators part of the Transit Hub or the World Financial Center expansion/renovation?

Nice pics, Towerpower.

The entire World Financial center is going through a big renovation, and once it's all done it'll be re-named Brookfeld Place.
