Unfortunately it seems to have been only a temporary test, 15:46 the crane is taking it out again, and on 16:16 I can't see it any more. But hopefully the test was successful at least, so that we dont have more delays..

Still a good sign that things are moving forward. Hopefully it goes back on soon.

I wonder why it was removed after installation. It seems that these should be much easier than all the other work. Being only connected to one piece, the work is far simpler. As long as the bolt pattern is to specification, it will fit no matter if the rest of it is the wrong length, warped, or whatever.

So the rafters basically are the wings?

It looks like that rafter is painted white in the first photo. Do you think they took it down, painted it and then put it back up?!

I'm pretty sure it was always white. it's been laying on the ground there for a couple of months already.

Ah cool. So why are the rafters painted when the rest isn't yet?

As a FYI, each rafter will be connected to a long-span purlin on each side of the Oculus. These were added as a response to the shear stress experienced by the structure because of the wind, per wind tunnel test #2.

All rafters will arrive pre-coated, just like the lower/sub portals. Upper portals, transition and arch segments were left exposed to allow temporary bolting, welding, misc. metal installation and glass envelope cladding take place. You don't want to work twice.

I think someone asked for the amount of additional weight it can withstand without reaching failure. The answer is that the Oculus can withstand the collapse of an entire building directly above it (that is, T2 or T3).

The purlins seem to make it look more like a crown now, and less like bird wings... to me, at least.
