They just poured the first concrete over the arches, at the north end where Fulton Street will be.

I was in the PATH station today and saw a huge steel plate girder anchor point of some sort. WAY to many official looking people standing around to take a picture.

I'm just trying to visualize what would be "huge" to a normal person. It was probably one of the mezzanine support columns.

Next time, just snap a pic and tell em Zensteeldude said it was ok.
That will almost guarantee you a room at Bellevue, if only for overnight observation..

It's definitely a support column of some sort as it goes up through the roof of the big, blue double-wide we use as a station now. But where it meets the floor over the platforms, it is about 4' X 10' or so and made of 2" thick iron plate.

It's remarkable because aside from a concrete column, you can't really see any other evidence for the new PATH station from within the temporary one. When is it supposed to open?

Here we go. From the good folks at the Sept 11th Memorial Webcam. I found both the concrete column and the anchor point.

As the temporary station is fairly narrow these are the only parts sticking through. It does like it'll be quite a while before they're done.

Ken, those columns are actually steel, they have curved steel skins to make them pritty.

Ahhhhhhh, that sounds like a mezzanine support column or the head of one.

FYI, there are no concrete columns in the new PATH station proper. They are probably Calatrava Columns, all curves, painted, and most definitely all steel.

I think the latest word on it's completion is 2014. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

@KenfromJersey: If you go there regularly, why don't you take a picture of it next time
Even smartphone quality is appreciated

Because it's right next to a worker's entrance with human security and usually a bunch of workers milling around. But, if I get the chance I'll pretend to play Angry Birds standing while standing next to it.

I copied and pasted my conversation over at WNY. Just as a heads up.

You could be right Sal, just a simple inspection, or adding more line( steel cable looped through a whole bunch of pulley's.) to the main hoist. I just find it's current position to be rather odd not to be doing something absolutely necessary. They don't do things with such a costly bit of gear for no reason.

Thanks for the great pic !

I just refreshed the hires cam, now the 18000 has it's boom at max angle (as close to vertical as it can get) and the jib is at zero ( flat, aka horizontal). Maybe it is just an inspection. I sure hope this is all leading up to something (By something I mean a big lift, tonight or tomorrow, by big lift I mean a super column. (( I don't see anything bigger on the prints.)) !

Could the night owl's on this forum keep a lookout and take some screen grabs if I am right. Thanks in advance.

That odd position has piqued my interest. Another possibility: it could be helping assemble the first tower crane for 3WTC, like it did for 2WTC.

I will not rule that out, but it does not fit. I think T3 is months away from tower cranes.

The first one It really is one of the nicest airports I have ever traveled through due to its open un-confining feel. It has broken the interior space up though with all of the amenities I mentioned above. ...

Yesterday there was another half of a supercolumn visible. Today it's covered up, presumably along with the other half to be welded together. I believe that makes at least three supercolumns on site. Workers are on site today, so maybe they'll place a supercolumn or more of the box girder.

This may be obvious, but is there any particular reason why they cover certain things with tents when they're working on them? :S
