Wow. It really makes me think about how much work they put in to erect something that will only end up being temporary.

Is there some reason they have done absolutely nothing except erect some scaffolding past week or more? All the sudden it's going snails pace...again...

It could have to do with all the bad weather days and/or the deadline of the 9/11 Museum getting finished. It may not seem like a whole lot of visible progress lately, but there is tremendous progress underground.

This project at Florida Polytechnic properly resembles a "dove in flight".

[QUOTE=Otie;114158394]This project at Florida Polytechnic properly resembles a "dove in flight".

It also resembles quite a few other Calatrava projects.

Skanska is de-tentioning north and south arches, this means removing the temporary bracing located under the skylight. Rafter and abutment installation will resume once the process is complete.

Skanska will continue to install rafters and purlins and, once all 114 are in place, welding will follow, lots of welding. Then they will remove temporary boxes holding the rafters, remove tower cranes and project will be turned over to Enclos.

Enclos is responsible for curtain wall envelope, retractable skylight, entrance doors and miscellaneous glass. A mobile crane will arrive to assist on glass envelope and skylight installation. Expect intense electrical work.

Once completed, the miscellaneous metal contractor will arrive and begin installing the maintenance catwalks above skylight machinery.

*The aforementioned procedure is a rough approximatation, several contractors are involved in the above grade structure, including a coating contractor for Oculus steel (FCS Group). Logistics are yet to be finalized.

Port Authority's next big milestone is to open several areas in and around the Oculus: Grand Staircase under No. 1 Box, passageways, connections to Fulton Transit Center, a Subway entrance and T4.

Cool, thanks for all the information/clarification. By the way, are you aware of any time tables we should expect all those passageways you mentioned in the above diagram you posted? End of this year maybe?

Ok, someone help me out here, I have seen many renders of the hub but every one seems to show a slightly different design for the abutments, could someone show me how the final version will actually look?

I've heard that was happening in July. Do you know a date for the Oculus walkway opening?

It was fine yesterday. Today I only get the memorial plaza view.

They most likely are fiddling with them in preparation of the public opening of the 9/11 Museum tomorrow.
