Yes, once it's all welded and ground smooth and under cover out of the weather it'll get several coats of white or near white.

Side note: That one pic labeled "Concrete footing for the Oculus." the caption is wrong. That is a footing for either a temporary support tower or a tower crane.

Those are some nice pics of some great steelwork, Top quality steel porn. If you study them closely you can see that each "Rib" is unique. Great stuff.

Quick question about the picture of the welder above. I can see what looks like quite a bit of weld in the bottom of the gap. Will the entire gap be filled in and what kind of size are we looking at? It is hard to judge the scale in that shot. Great inside images though!

The whole thing is going to be filled. It's hard to see in the pic but the column side walls are very thick, over 4 inches. What can be seen is the "run off" plates at the end of the weld. The "run off" plates stick out about 6 inches beyond the end of the column plate. It's so the weld does not end at the edge of the column plate. They will be cut off after the welding is done.

A quick search has revealed that nobody has used the word "yonic" to describe the design of the main hall, so I will:

It's very yonic. Considering that most buildings are phallic, I guess it's only fair to the other 51% of the population be represented too. I like it, but it's something that nobody else seems to notice.

I freely admit that I had to look up the word "yonic".

I also have to agree with you Ken.

Earthcam is up again..

Last(?) piece of box girder is installed, how is this going to be connected to the plate girders now?

The big column that looked like part of a supercolumn is gone now, but impossible to say if it was just put somewhere else (maybe under a tent ) or installed somewhere..

Also the tent above the spine looks longer than before, maybe another part of it arrived in the meantime..

Hopefully the earthcam stops this ups and downs and stays online now!

I see a pattern with the Earthcam. It stops updating around midnight, then it takes them 1/2 to 2 1/2 days to get it working again, only to crap out around midnight again. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Betting it'll die again tonight, I'll post a capture here for folks who might miss it today:

There will be more on each side, basically extending to the ends of the temporary platform it is sitting on right now. The supercolumns will be right under where the notch in the platform is at each end.

It's still on the ground, on the other side of the crane now, where the box girder piece was before.

Thanks for the explanation, the diagonal form of the ends was misleading me, even the temporary supports for the ends are already installed as I see now..

Ah right, did not notice it there. So maybe this is a good sign that they will install it soon, at least the latest box girder pieces were put there before their installation

As predicted, the Earthcam stopped updating last Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, but this time was down for over five days. It's back up, at least for today...

What exactly these 2 buildings near sidewalks are? These 2 were not in basic plans, or were they? Or were the added subsequently?

..because if you look at plan on 2nd picture, these two buildings are not planned/drawn here

thanks, man!

so are these 2 related to National September 11 Memorial & Museum, or for any other purposes. Maybe a store, entrance to the underground hub, subway, parking lots...?
