It shouldn't, they can be re-welded into one piece on the ground outside of the critical path on the timeline. That work would interfere with the erection process. Now whether they really do that are not is another question.

This kind of news is just enough to give us skyscraper fans a steel-superstructure erection of our own.

Still amazing though, first time in 13 years a fence hasn't been there. Every little bit makes it more and more real that the site as a whole is coming back.

At the corner of Fulton Street and Greenwich Street, just West of the Oculus, there is something that looks like a junkyard.

I understand it is necessary to have a spot where all the tools are stored to complete construction. But does anyone know which construction site is that yard used for? Is it for the Oculus?

Once that spot will be cleared, EVERYTHING will be so much prettier...

The wings are obviously not solid.

Most likely you will find some spars inside the rafters for stability purpose. On the longer rafters I guess there might be some built in passive damping mechanism. Otherwise the reafters are light a possible because they support only themselves.

Well spotted, just a few days ago I was wondering if they would ever need them on the south side as well.. and the next one on the ground already got the clamps attached.. quite good progress recently!

On the north side, it can be seen how far the welding has come by simply noticing from which rafters the clamps have already been removed (hope I'm not wrong about this) and the progress looks quite good as well.

For those that have been wondering, the U shaped abundant is inside of the Oculus near the east side scaffolding.
