It will need a new coat of paint every 10 years. It will take 10 years to paint.

Jk...

Anyone with eyes on the ground can tell us what's going on here? Are they installing glazing or is it something else?

I highly doubt they will install the glass before painting, masking off all the glass would be a nightmare. That white material may be masking that they are starting to install to protect the concrete from paint when they paint the structure. It seems like they could start painting the lower sections now.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems to me that they are already painting part of the rafters: as you can see on the pictures, the rafters that have been put on recently are "rusty" on the section that is "connecting" them near their tips. But those that have been installed earlier have been "whitened" or painted.

Am I wrong?

I saw the same thing. It's probably easier to do that section well they are already working in the area. I wonder if it's just a base coat and they will do a finish coat over everything at the end?

It's probably to prevent the rust from rusting through. It will have been a while since the first rafters were installed when they are done with the last ones. All that time they would have been exposed to the weather.

It seems like they ones that look rusty are the ones that still have the collar attachment to help the workers match them up during installation. The ones that look cleaner were the first ones up and have the collar stuff removed.

It does have an air of 50's Modernism/Minimalism to it, although the roof beams scream 21st century! Just based on that tunnel, this will be a gorgeous gateway to Manhattan, exactly what it needs!
