Those are mockups, they've been on site for ages but they just moved them to that spot recently.

Maybe? More likely they'll paint a section, then move on to the next section, and install glass on the first section while the next section is being painted.

Have you ever painted a wall? It will need multiple coats as others said before, so please don't worry, it will look stunning at the end

I am a little concerned that the pollution and dust and other things flying in the air will make this taint and blacken this strucutre in no time.

Is there any solution in place to prevent such particles from settling on this structure?

White is a very hard color to maintain.

Most people don't realize this, but a large portion of the $4B budget is for an invisible force field that will surround the Oculus for just this very purpose.

Nothing that an occasional power washing can't clean. It'll be fine.

I don't know why this myth is so popular. There are 80 year old white buildings that retain their colour very well. There are even buildings in Pripyat that are as white as they were when they were built.

Maybe a clean or a new paint every 50 years, but that's the case for any building.

It is not a myth. Especially when the white coating is covering a steel structure. Rain, sleet, pollution and ice. God knows the horrors ice does.

According to them, 71 of 114 rafters have been installed.

They are behind. There are now 75 rafters installed. 40 on the North and 35 on the South. Only 39 left total to go

But I'm saying that white is no harder to maintain than any other colour. Any colour paint can be affected by pollution, rust and ice.

I realized I haven't taken any night photos for some reason, so I got out my tripod and gave it a shot. There's usually some grinding and/or welding going on around now that looks cool at night. But, maybe next time.

I don't think it has sunk in for me yet that this is, or will be, an american icon as much as the statue of liberty or golden gate bridge. Nothing else like the wtc hub exists in the US. Of course the plaza will only be truly complete when 2wtc is rising, but still this is an incredible structure.

The poster's point is that white is such a bright color that such weather dependencies are far more obvious, which they are, than they would if it were a darker color. As for the choice of color, white is a very Calatrava color.
