Those are actually weld joints and yes, they have always been there.

Weld Joints

I expect that perhaps there are stiffening plates inside the sections, hence the weld joints? These are gigantic cantilevers...

Also, it appears there are vent holes at the top of the vertical weld joints? Was this to relieve pressure during the welding operations to connect the pieces?

It would be so stupid to leave them just like that. I really hope they grind them and make smooth.

Check out the interior of the dome being painted, as well, in the close up photo.

#37 South is in this morning, and #42 North is most likely going to follow. Funny how much the South side caught up after the corrected that alignment issue.

Edit: Didn't realize 2 North rafters went in yesterday. We're down to 20 on the South side left and 15 for the North side. So close!

Can someone post the link for the webcam? I know it's been posted many times, but I keep forgetting to bookmark it!

Finally got to NY this week to see the WTC site. Took a few pictures of the construction progress.

There will be marble seats attached to the perimeter of the Oculus.

And just to reiterate, there will be an operable skylight.

^Notice the smoke exhaust holes between the transitions on that photo. Fans are yet to be installed here, they will operate through electrical controls.

Also:
1. Old rendering from previous design with the operable rafters. (never released to the media/public). Notice the number of purlins on that design!

2. Skylight mockup.

3.
Glass modules will slide through rails, which will be mounted on top of the supports. Skylight folks, materials and a crane will be movilized on site once the structure is completed and turned over (Skanska is the contractor for the Oculus steel, they need to finish erecting rafters before Enclos start working on skylight).

Skylight manufacturing diagram (from shop drawings).

Can't reveal more, enjoy!

So, despite the "60 to 90 days" statement in June, and the "coming this fall" ads, they're delaying it till December? Is this from a reliable source?
