It looks like it may be several placed very close to each other. If you look at the far end you will see a angular line that looks like the correct angle to be separating 2 rafters. I don't see a split for the bases of 2 that are end to end but it could be hidden by the rafters that are already hung.

As for the blue material, it's sheets of foam insulation.

I already answered both of these questions in post #4883!

Oh God, they're taking down rafters again. Major misalignment. First time on the North side I believe.

Is it really that hard to calculate the proper placement?

until you get it in the air, let gravity do its work, you will never really know.

i believe they did a virtual fit up, but nothing replaces a real trial assembly.

It seems like the rafter is way too short

I hope this doesn't throw off the alignment for the rest of the North rafters as well. Being that we've seen the SE rafters after #6 were aligned with the misaligned rafter.

Perhaps the engineers and workers are forgetting to use a certain precise, state-of-the-art instrument. It's this weird hand-held device called a tape measure?

So after looking at the picture one more time, I don't really think the rafter is too short... It is just that the right side and the right rope are higher and lifting the rafter a bit higher so it seems like the rafter is "shorter". To my mind it is just an optical illusion! It could also be that the rafter isn't liftet to the right height and so it is lower and is creating the illusion...
