From the sound of it, it seems to be a massive underground network of walkways under the memorial. Can't wait until it opens fully.

The more I look at the more I like it, still looks like a set of bones from a dinosaur or something, but I guess that's what makes it a lot more epic.

I'm sure those rust marks will be painted over before opening day, but they should be taken as a distant warning sign. I'm a huge fan of Calatrava's design work, but am becoming increasingly concerned about the durability of his buildings. Here in Valencia, Spain, Calatrava's hometown, all of the tiles on his magnificent opera house had to be torn off in December due to rippling under the skin and rust on the surface. They still haven't been replaced. There is also rusting on some of the walkways and other buildings that are part of the same complex. I hope New York and the Transportation hub fare better. You certainly deserve better!

Further down the corridor are "Conde Nast" & "One World Trade Center" doors.

I know the pillars are probably structural, but couldn't they remove just a couple or do something else to make entrances more inviting? The observatory entrance actually looks hidden.

Well they could've just not recessed the glass wall, or could've put in different signage. They obviously knew thet would be working with these pillars beforehand.

You're right they are structural, those two pillars are part of the towers southwest corner. If they were to be removed that would be a problem.

ah, yeah, don't want to do that. They still could have made the entrance align with the pillars, though, like the doors down the hall though, right? It just seems oddly tucked away in it's current position.

You can actually tell it's a "significant" access point because it's recessed in compared to the storefronts.

So are they structural or are they not structural? Are we talking about the same pillars? I'm asking about the ones in front of the entrance.

I think that is a quality of materials problem and not a design issue

Yes, those pillars in front of the entrance and all of those dividing the B2 storefronts are purely ornamental; they do not have any structural function except to add stress to the bigger column members that extend to the B3 corridor below.

Westfield is planning to locate interactive ads on the corridor's wall.
