Ha I bet one of the workers there reads this site and wrote that there just for us!

BTW all those crates lying around near the SE corner of T2, are those glass panels for the sides of the oculus?

It looked like the connection between the transitions and the rafters consists of 2 round pipes welded together at the upper and lower edges and then metal plates to cover up the space between. So there's plenty of empty space to thread wires in there, but they would have had to do it before they closed it all up.

Otie, could you explain the reason of using hammerhead crane instead crawler?
I try to get some self education and found out that hammerhead crane is huge monsterious structure which needs a lot of time just to built the crane itself. As I understood hammerhead crane is symbol of 19 century which people built for using it for decades and decades like port cranes.

Where I am wrong? And if I am not wrong so what could be reason of using it instead even huge crawler? No space for crawler at ground level? No space for crawler's boom to rotate?

If a crawler had no space for the boom to rotate than why would a hammerhead have space

A crawler would need a combination of 200' boom to clear the rafters + 200' jib (to reach horizontally): this would be a large one. The boom and jib would need to rest on the ground in case of bad weather/strong winds, which would require a lot of room.

In addition renting a large crawler like this would likely be more expensive than renting a hammerhead crane...

Hammerhead is definitely the more efficient crane to use for this particular project.

Hi weidncol,

Going by your signature, will the Transit Hub open in September 2015. Is that confirmed?

That's the current plan, yes. We can only hope it won't be delayed.

Well, as others have reported, the Transit Hub looks enormous and awesome up close. For those worried about it being overshadowed by the towers, you have nothing to fear!

I seriously doubt it will open by September. I would guess more along the lines of November or December like they originally were saying.

That is true @weidcol, but there's also a TON of work left to be done. Obviously I hope it opens in September that would be ideal, but I'm just being realistic. This is the World Trade Center, nothing goes as planned.

There are those boxes we keep wondering about. If they were letting you would think they would be all the way down instead of just on the one end. Are they also on the other side near the end?

^ According to Westfield the plaza around the Oculus will be used for concerts and special events like they used to do on the old plaza(much grander of course I would assume). Maybe that's what these light boxes are for?

Definitely, it doesn't look it but there will be a considerable amount of plaza space between the Oculus and Fulton. I believe Otie also stated at some point on here that Westfiled would be hosting these types of events at the Oculus/plaza, unless I'm wrong.
