How will people access the westside platform of the 1 train? Will there be access from within the hub (like there is for the eastside platform) or will it only be via stairs at ground level?

Ok so a question for the sake of Clarity. So the 1,2,3,4,5,A,C,E,J,Z,Q and PATH are all connected via the Fulton Center, The Dey St. Passage, and the WTC, BUT the 1,E, and Q are outside of fare control?

It look like those platforms are hanging by heavy steel cables.

Maybe each platform contain kind of winch at each corner? And after completion of skylight they will just go down as elevators for disassembling downstairs and further removing off Occulus piece by piece?

WTC Progress - Facebook Page

The state-of-the-art World Trade Center Transportation Hub, when completed, will serve over 200,000 daily commuters and millions of annual visitors from around the world. At approximately 800,000 square feet, the Hub, designed by internationally acclaimed architect Santiago Calatrava, will be the third largest transportation center in New York City, rivaling Grand Central Station in size.

The WTC Transportation Hub's concourse will conveniently connect visitors to 11 different subway lines, the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) rail system, Battery Park City Ferry Terminal, the World Trade Center Memorial Site, WTC Towers 1, 2, 3, and 4, the World Financial Center and the Winter Garden. It will represent the most integrated network of underground pedestrian connections in New York City.

The Hub features an "Oculus” design, which will give the facility a distinctive, wing-like appearance. When completed, the "Oculus,” upper portion of the Transportation Hub, will serve as the main concourse. Incorporating 225,000 square feet of exciting, multi-level retail and restaurant space along all concourses, the Hub promises to be a destination location, becoming the centerpiece for the entire Lower Manhattan district.

Close. Fulton St has the A,C,J,Z,2,3,4,5 within a single fare control zone. If you use Dey St Passage, you can get to the R train (not Q), but its another fare. Eventually you will also be able to get to the 1 and E train. Perhaps the R and E can be within a single fare zone, but I don't think the 1 will be.

I could be wrong, but I think they were lifted up by the crane and they are just hanging there by the cables and will have to use the crane to lift them back down.

After completion of skylight they would not have any access to the platforms anymore. IMHO

Yes they will because the panels will be in the open position.

Winch Platforms

Hey All,

It's not a very difficult operation to install a winch and lower each platform. They already have a cable connection in place. I recently redesigned access rigging for here (for bosun chair and/or swing stage):

It's a simple process, once you've nailed down where the structural connections will be located.

And also, I wouldn't be surprised if the connection points remain in place upon completion of the skylight installation, to allow for future interior cleaning of the skylights by a swing stage. Unless Otie has info about some sort of track system that will be installed.

Hi everyone!

It's been a while since I have been on this forum... By looking at the rafters it seems to be that they have fixed the alignment that was faulty: they all seem to be at a equal distance now, am I wrong?

Also, do you know when the painting will resume?

thanks.
