Do you mean the platforms?

I've been thinking about this, too...the one thing that will bode well for the actual headhouse is that it's going to be an actual retail center, which will likely entail adequate maintenance and cleaning of those facilities.

I do think the platforms may become a bit dusty/dingy, personally. Though, I'm not at all sure how PA's station cleaning and maintenance regime differs from the MTA's.

They look awfully close to opening it. I was down there today and they were testing the Fire Alarm. Some women kept announcing this is a test of the World Trade Center transportation hub fire alarm. Also the entrance to the hallways is in the lobby of 4 world trade center. As for the whole dey street thing. I think that might open with it. It looks like they are building a temporary entrance there too. This should be interesting but I do believe this is opening in the next coupe of weeks.

Two questons:

1) Once the skylight is completed, will the yellow crane be dismantled right away or will it serve another purpose?

2) When will the "platforms" that were installed right under the skylight in order to help its installation be dismantled? Do any of you have pictures of them from inside the Oculus actually being dismantled?

thanks.

I would genuinely be amazed if they put the effort into avoiding as much dirt/grime collection as the average MTA substation and it would certainly open up a good deal amount of jobs for someone willing.

So, the glass spine retracts, that was is new to me. Though I am not comfortable with how small those belts look in how dirty a building can get in the middle of a city that gets hit all all-seasons. Not saying it would break readily, and I am sure they've thought about things like heavy rain and hurricane level weather.

Is the reason for the center toe retract apart from aesthetics?

Actually, the Hub will be a PATH station, run by the Port Authority and not a subway station run by the MTA. PATH stations are usually cleaner than MTA, mostly because they have less of them (13 vs 468). Also, the retail section will by managed by Brookfield, who will have tenants to answer to.

The retail will not be managed by Brookfield. Brookfield owns/manages Brookfield Place (fka World Financial Center). Westfield, the Australian mall management company, will manage WTC. Westfield also manages the Fulton Center, although no retail has opened there, despite that facility being open since November 2014.
