The KPI TV web cam is back in action. The URL has changed.

They installed that funny looking piece of the box girder last night. It's oriented north-south at the western edge. I suppose there could be even more pieces of the box girder to come.

Someone on WNY said the 18000 might be coming down this weekend, but it wasn't confimed. In a way I believe it, it has been working 24 hours a day this week, and its even over greenwich street right now which does happen to often on a weekday. I guess time will tell

I would suspect- and hope- that the North Pool tower crane will come down and/or be moved to the hub site prior to 9/11/11. Can anyone confirm this, and yes it does appear that they've constructed a tower crane base next to the 18000 so it does appear that crane's departure may be imminent.

The biggest problem is to lay the crane down, im sure they planned for it but it looks like someone screwed up big time. When it was first assembled in the hub it was crawled back against the #1 box with no max-er and it reached the slurry wall at church street, keep in mind they also had an extra 20 feet then. Like 325 said, the luffer will probably come off in mid air which has been done before but never in NY, it will be interesting to see to say the least! As for the heaviest pieces of the crane, the tracks, body and roatating bed, i am guessing they will use the new greenwich street and set up a crane on it to remove them as no crane on site such as the favco can lift these pieces at the radius they are set at. It will be very interesting to see this
Looks like the west tower crane for 2WTC is removing the weights from the max-er:

Watched it last night until around 2AM... Really surprized to see the 2WTC LinkBelts taking it down, I guess the 230T capacity is showing. Since they can't reach to far I'm guessing once the luffer is off (which will take some time to unreeve) they will crawl it with the boom closer to the tower cranes. Will go down there today and during the week to get pics of whats visable.

Laying the boom down now

Went down there before, not much coming out besides counterweights, talked to the truck drivers and was told they were in a rush to get the weights out today. The weights also weren't going to lomma's yard which I found strange, didn't get any info on when the entire crane will be completely gone, shouldn't be long though as it took 3 days to leave tower 1

Each weight is 22 tons a piece

is it possible that it was rental-purchased? although its not likely anyone really needs an 18000 around here, other than for powerplants etc.

Lomma/NY crane owns it, no plans for a job after it..

Lomma has offices from here to PA to the Carolina's, they will find work for it somewhere (i hope) Within the past 2 years I have seen many 18000's from other crane firms in PA so I suppose it will spend alot of time in PA.

It was suppose to be in the Bayway refinery but it never went through...

Federated must have a job for it, they have the maxer weights in there yard right now. Also found out the 16000 on site was Lomma's

Though much shorter, lighter, and less articulated, the 18000 still lives. It might be erecting the tower for its successor. Hard to tell at the moment with the sharp contrast between shadows and sunny areas. Overcast days are much better for viewing the web cams.

Indeed she's still tickin' down there. She's back up although like you said much shorter than before. Perhaps you are correct; her final role will be to help erect her successor.

Installing one of the big arch pieces for the mini truss:

The red arrow is pointing to a support for a temporary platform like the one the yellow crawler is sitting on. It appeared Sunday night or Monday morning, I believe. Guess there will be another crawler somewhere in the area. Perhaps the 18000 will get relocated yet again.

Those temporary platforms (crane mats) are going to be used to crawl the 18000 up against the slurry wall at Church Street so then a mobile crane can take it away, the link belts cant handle the heavy parts

Speaking of mobile cranes, it looks like a huge one is being set up near 1WTC. I'm guessing it'll take apart the tower crane next to the north pool. If so, it'll be interesting to see if it (maybe with help from the yellow crawler) can move the parts to within range of the downsized 18000 for assembly on the new tower in the east bathtub, assuming the tower crane is going to be relocated there.
