The original mall had two (N)RW entrances in the same locations, so why not revive both? The smaller one at the south end is the only way to exit the platform without walking either under it or completely to the opposite end of it, so it would save commuters a lot of time.

The direct connection to One Liberty Plaza via the underpass used to be an out-of-fare passageway leading to the original WTC mall, but now it's only useful to reach the southbound platform, not the WTC itself anymore. I hope they revert it to being out of the fare zone some day...

Yeah, I'm aware it used to be called WTC Newsstand & Novelties. I used to walk in that area when the original WTC was there so I remember that corridor very well in fact. I'm sure once the connection opens they will take the black tape off. I just figured it would be kind of cool if they incorporated it in there somehow but I agree that the corridor was dull and dreary. I'm sure the new passageway will have a ramp or stairs going down to come close to the level of the new mall.

Can anyone please tell me where these arrows (will) lead to? I have a strong suspicion that the red arrow leads to the secondary (E) train connection, but I'm not sure because I haven't seen it in person yet.

The E train connection would be one more level down to the left. (Down the stairs with the column)

Clearly there is something there where the red arrow is, because it is covered and it looks like a concourse. I am wondering if there will be another connection to the E. I wonder when they will open up some restrooms in there. It would be nice to not have to walk over to Brookfield or up to Fulton Center.

According to this old schematic, there should be two access points for the (E) line. The old entrance doesn't have a ramp or elevator, so that new second entrance is the only way to make the station ADA-compliant.

I think it will start in early 2017, in an article I saw, it said it was opening in 2019. I'm going to say late 2019 for the opening

Demolition is supposed to be over by end of the year and they have been doing what they could with the VSC infrastructure while the station has existed.

An architect has been selected, however no official design has been revealed. I believe funding has been approved as well.
