Pretty sure they're lamp posts, like the ones on the memorial plaza.

Thickness has nothing to do with surface chipping. And I doubt anything has been done to the pantheon floor other than grout and cleaning. Stone flooring is about as sustainable as you can get.

Until photos are posted of this allegedly horrible marble floor, I'll assume that it is as durable as any other marble floor. It likely can outlive the skyscrapers of Manhattan.

In fact, there was someone painting last night after 7pm. They must be putting in a rush job for the mall's opening.

The mall opens to the public August 16th. I would say about half of the stores that will be there will be opening. The rest will soon come. We have come a long way. I remember the mall at the original WTC, so it will be nice to have a mall there again...

Westfield is definitely planning an August 16 Gand Opening. Here's an interactive map of the stores on both levels (enlarge the map on the site to see specific smaller stores). Nice location for the Apple Store.

Oculus plaza is partially opening the 16th as well. I'm not sure about the west entrance but the east plaza level entrance is opening that day. You can see they have begun putting up barricades around the completed sections and they have removed all barricades around the escalators surrounding the "diving board" leading down to the mezz level. Apparently there will be a flag raising ceremony on the plaza at 11:30 for those with "a close connection" to the WTC before the mall opens at noon.

Looks like I was right about those poles on the east side of the plaza; they're flag poles similar to the old complex.

What's an "American Banner" exactly? Something like this?

Retail opening at 9AM and plaza is opening at 12PM after a flag ceremony at 11:30AM.
