I hope those 'post and rope' barriers on the outside of the Oculus are temporary! Does anyone know why they are there?

The interior looks simply breathtaking... Like a cathedral of transportation. Absolutely stunning!

Looks can be deceiving.. The entrance is so small but you go inside and see how huge it is.

It's clear now that this is not station but a mall, in fact I believe I heard some guys from the PA call it a mall too.
But regardless, it achieved its goal. It is already an iconic structure and people are flocking there in droves and most of all, shopping there. I absolutely hate malls, but I found myself enjoying the experience.. Eataly was amazing.

It looks even better at night. Majestic!

Hardly. This is the same sort of finish that you see in most modern countries. The finish is quite beautiful, and looks like a cross between marble and a cloud.

One thing I did notice is that Apple is pretty good at designing its stores in the context of its surroundings. Checkout how they extended the visual lines of the "ribs" into the ceilings in their store:

Uh, nah. It's just a coincidence. It follows their 'new' global store concept.

Not sure I follow...how is it coincidence if it's part of the design concept?

Look at another example here:
http://www.cultofmac.com/431031/chec...ancisco-store/

Of course, they had more control over the sidewalk in that article than the architectural features of this hub, but it's not a coincidence.

Speaking of their new style, they seemed to have broken it at this store in Williamsburg opened a few weeks prior: http://www.apple.com/retail/williamsburg/

They're following context. Anyway, it's still a great looking space.

It's a coincidence that their standard store concept fits this mall location particularly well. It's predominantly white and has a rectangle light box ceiling, just like any other non-heritage location.

It is an absolutely underwhelming entrance for such an audacious building
