It is surprising that white marble was selected for high traffic area flooring and seating. Marble stains and pits very easily and let's be honest...the commuters these days are generally careless about how they use and abuse their surrounding. With the millions of feet, water, snow, ice, coffee, chewing gum, candy, pop, dragged suit cases, etc, on these surfaces every year, it will be a maintenance nightmare.
And when marble is wet, it is slippery. In San Francisco, buildings often cover their marble floors to reduce slipping danger.

....The worst being cheap low class tourists who act like pigs...
These outdoor benches(more likely a cornice) are a stupid idea imo!..but why do people need to drop their big ass everywhere nowadays?they better stay home and do online virtual visits if they have little stamina!(most of them are young people!!)

This one is by the PATH steps:

It will look more broken-in and mature. Look at the Library of Congress and all of the other beautiful buildings in DC.

Online visits can't compare to the real thing.

And you can't just say that people have little stamina. You have no way of knowing how far they have been walking or standing until that point. Finding places to sit down is hardly a new thing-look at just about every picture or painting from the Victorian age.

Kindly do not call people "big asses". That is a stereotype of being fat, and I find it objectionable, considering that I know people with eating disorders.

And young people should be encouraged to get outside and enjoy the world. They should be looking around and enjoying life. So don't go nagging on young people, saying they should have more stamina. Encourage them to get more exercise and be outdoors.

.....Can't withstand anymore all the negative critics about the hub!!
As controversial as this project may be,NY has been long overdue for an iconic space and the haters should see how users react to the sublime internal space of the "oculus"!
Some try to answer whether the building, while undeniably unique and striking,is worth the $4 billion price tag.Key to this question's answer is the way that it settles into its role as a piece of the city's fabric.
Calatrava designed a piece of civic architecture in an urban democratic setting without resorting to sentimentality, relying instead on raw materials, embedded technology and a fluid sense of space to reflect the collective contemporary condition of the city.
Exceptional public space is essential to civic life!

Please do not requote pics on the same page, quit your pills and let parents educate their kids alone.
I am 22 and I know how to behave in public places as I am educated.
Asia is leading the world because it can rely on well educated and motivated people.

Don't say that sort of thing, kid (says the 26-year old).

I have not checked to see if this has been mentioned earlier, but Calatrava's design bears a striking resemblance to the Air Force Academy Chapel in Colorado Springs. Not the first time a leading artist borrows ideas from others' works.

I hope you're being ironic otherwise this is one of the most stupid comments in this topic.
Would you let the tens of thousands of people who work there sit down for a coffee or have their lunch on the bench outdoors or should they also sit in front of their computer and take a virtual tour?

...I was obviously targeting a certain category of tourists who better stay at home because they are a cancer for cities like NY,Paris or Venice it..

The hundreds of bollocks and small entrance makes it look uninviting.

Agreed. I'll never understand why they decided to recreate the streets in the first place if they were just going to place all these barriers and 500,000 bollards. Should have just recreated the superblock. I used to hate it...now I miss it.

The place is always crowded:people got used to living like this now..
Keep in mind they lost 86 lives(hundreds wounded)in Nice Fr because there were no bollards on the Promenade des Anglais!..
For the rest, sure,it looks like a fortress..
