This glass I believe is for Smoke Control. I wonder what is going on the opposite side of the PATH Hall above the bathrooms. It appears as though it was meant to be retail or something. Also why was the middle set of platforms closed again, I thought they were completed?

Just my guess, but on that closed platform there were several unfinished details that may now be worked on. For instance, under the stairways where there are marble benched there was temporarily white painted sheet rock that still needed to be covered with the white enamel metal panels. Several wood trips painted white that have to be replaced with finished marble or metal. They now have the other tracks to use while keeping people out of the way of workers finishing these details. I also noticed that signage with white letters on white background ("WORLD TRADE CENTER")

I also noticed signage with white letters on white background ("WORLD TRADE CENTER") that are hard to read that are on the overhead sign strips. It appeared that they were of a flimsy material such as plastic or cardboard and thus just a test to see if they would look and work good. Perhaps they saw how unsuitable white on white is for signs that need to be read quickly from a moving train and are now replacing them perhaps with a silver aluminum or black colored lettering. Lets hope so.

Those are remnants of the temporary post-9/11 Church Street entrances to the southbound platform; there were no such street-level entrances to this platform when the original WTC stood, nor will there be for the new WTC. Just as before 9/11, you will only be able to access the southbound platform from either the WTC mall or one of the underpasses.

So... it's been a while since I've been on. Are they about to get rid of the temporary entrance, finally? There is added satisfaction of taking a break from these forums for a while and then rediscovering them. It seems like yesterday the first glass panel went in, and then it's suddenly completed.

Yes, it's been shut down for a while now and demolition has started.

I realize the attention to detail in construction was not that great. I've seen it in person. But man does it make an impression when you step back. Both night and day too. This is pretty cool despite some of the value engineering it went through.

I wish that old Lower Manhattan - JFK direct train proposal with the tunnel had been built, because it would be great arriving into NYC from the airport into this spectacular station! Hopefully the PATH will go to Newark Airport.

There are two different (A) stations connected directly to the WTC, so following a bit of subterranean navigating, your dream is already pretty close to reality.

It will, but don't hold your breath.

Replace the 'bit' with 'endless' and your sentence is a 100% accurate!

Perhaps I can be of some assistance.

1) From JFK to Chambers Street (A) Station:
Ascend any staircase from the platform level and proceed south until reaching one of the two World Trade Center mall entrances.

2) From JFK to Fulton Street (A) Station:
Ascend any staircase on the western half of the platform level and proceed west until reaching the Fulton Center mall entrance. Once inside the Fulton Center, walk directly southwest to the Dey Street Passageway and proceed through it until reaching the World Trade Center mall entrance.

The only complicated connections involve traveling to the World Trade Center from the Fulton Center's (J)(Z) or (2)(3) platforms, both of which requiring a journey through the (A)(C) platform.
