It connects to the Fulton Street Center a block away.

It's a mall, just as the original one was, and that's fine with me. It doesn't have to be a train station to be grand or justify billions of dollars being thrown at it.

Look at Grand Central and it is the EXACT same thing. The grand atriums that the station is famous for are only gathering places while the platforms themselves look very industrial and bare minimum to say the least. This new station at least has modern high ceilings right above the platforms in a bright environment. The Oculus itself was placed in the only location that a tall atrium could be located as the actual PATH hall is directly below the northeast corner of the memorial itself. It also aligns with that symbolically important sliver of light on September 11th.

I beg to differ. The main hall of GCT is about passengers and trains. Ticket booths, departure boards, info both, etc. The retail areas are secondary to the transportation areas. I remember when the balconies where empty spaces, and it wasnt that long ago that the east staircase didnt even exist.

The oculus is a mall. There's nothing wrong with that. The originally trade center had a huge mall. But in a region that really needs transportation improvements, putting the Calatrava building over the mall (and calling it a transit hall), there are better ways that money should have been used.

At least up until recently, there were gravel roads in the Bronx.

It's actually paved but just very dirty from all the construction vehicles.

The retail portions of Grand Central Station and Penn Station have "very little to do with train travel" either ... stop bitching about this project please.

Nobody is "bitching". It's called having an alternate opinion which I thought was the purpose of such 'discussion' forums.

Honestly it seems that it was one hell of a lot of money spent for just a glorified mall.

Are both the north and south sides future subway access points?

The station is built. So its a little too late to complain about it.

If you have nothing positive to contribute then please don't contribute.

I like that it's mostly a mall. There was one in the original complex and it encourages people to spend time at the WTC for more than just office work or mourning at the museum.

Why didn't they install a second escalator instead of the staircase?

no, you are no authority to tell me to practically stop contributing just because you obviously don't like my opinion. 'll contribute my ideas, whether they be criticism or praise, regardless if the station is done or not and whether you like it or not. You are not getting me to shut up just because you disagree with my point. Where is the disclaimer on this forum that states all opinions must be positive or else...? I think you should stop telling other people how to post, it's rude as heck.

If you only have two escalators, and one breaks or is down for maintenance, you have a problem.
