what's going on there?

thank you

that looks an awful lot like a crane path to me.

I understand that Skanska will be using the M2480 tower cranes to erect the calatrava steel, this could be something that has to go in to prepare for that, but it seems early for that.

When will this thing start to take shape?

It still looks a construction maze when I look at the pics

From what I can tell, it looks like the north and south sides of the oval mirror each other, with the box columns (on both sides) starting near the east end of the oval. Some of them have diagonal braces, so I guess those will be part of a wall and won't be exposed like the rounded columns. (Maybe they'll add some "faux ribs" to the walls.) Does any have a render handy showing the east end from inside the oculus?

I know this doesn't totally fit the sorrounding area, but if it turns out as well as in the renders, the interior it will be an amazing place to visit.

I hear what I hear from the master riggers that have their ear to the pavement in the city.....

I dont ask people their sources, but I understand that Koch has some BIG, heavy pieces going in there......

There are black mast pieces down there now, they look similar to the M2480's. But who knows, might be for the 760's down there

Port Authority Chooses Company To Build Skylight For WTC Transit Hub

"A company has been chosen to build a skylight on top of the future transit hub at the World Trade Center site.

At a board meeting Thursday, the Port Authority approved the nearly $30 million contract to the Encelos Corporation, a company that has built similar skylights around the world.

The deal also includes a one-year maintenance program and a minimum five year warranty on all major parts.

The Port Authority also announced at the meeting that One World Trade Center will surpass the Empire State Building in height as early as Monday."

Great pictures. They really show the scale of this. Obviously the sliding crane will not be sliding anywhere for a while.

The rib structure reminds me a little of the new King's Cross station, of course there will definitely have to be more added security feature though.

Not quite so sure why you think this structure located in NYC will need more security than Kings Crossing located in London. London has had a lot more terrorist attacks than New York!

Went to the site today. None of this is really visible from ground level yet:

This is the loading ramp we saw built. Note how low to ground level the crane is. Definitely is different than just seeing it on the web cam:

Thanks! How did you manage to get inside the fence?

They started pouring the southwestern part in the middle of the night, so that the area outlining the oculus is soon completed up to this level..

I didn't get inside. I just crossed the street and took the pictuers through a chainlink fence. You can see a part of it blocked the lense in the second picture.
