They've got the boom in four or five pieces now. I wonder why there is a red boom piece in the middle of it all:

The company that owns it (cranes inc) livery is red, they paint just about every crane red that they own but I guess they haven't had a chance to get this one in the paint shop.

I have pics of the WFC construction while passing, I will post them later when I download them.

So the yellow crawler crane is finally gone, it stayed longer than I had expected.

@325ccr: looking forward for some shots!

Also steady progress on West Street, with the newest lane shifts they will be able to finish the missing part of the east-west connector:

http://www.lowermanhattan.info/news/...ift_83786.aspx

West Street Lanes Shift for Concourse Construction

Construction of the new underground pedestrian concourse between the World Trade Center (WTC) and the World Financial Center is continuing through fall 2013. To accommodate work there, southbound West Street (Route 9A) travel lanes will shift westward overnight on Saturday, September 22nd. Lane closures will be necessary during the lane-shift process, from 12:01 a.m. to 6 p.m. Northbound lanes are then also planned to shift westward on Saturday, September 29th.

With the traffic lanes relocated, crews from the Port Authority can continue to build out the underground concourse on the WTC side of West Street. Work on the east-west connector pedestrian tunnel began in 2007 inside the WTC site, where it will link to the new Transportation Hub. Designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, the hubs design incorporates column-free interior spaces using steel "ribs," which also are incorporated into the concourses design. The overall completion date for the $3.9 million hub -- which will serve as the new PATH station and connect to several subway lines and the Fulton Center -- is approximately mid-2015.

That's going to be a great spot to look out over the WTC.

Looks like another tremendous pour is happening today. I can't wait to see all of this fresh steel placed as well. It seems that stairs and other recognizeable pieces are arriving almost daily.

Wow, now one of the cranes is being removed from the top of 1 WTC.

Like Spectre000 said, "Nice to see another crane leave."

Here's an animation of the crane leaving 1 WTC (Warning: The audio is very loud):

Well, a new crane is going on top of 1 WTC, then one will come down.

It's hard to tell what's going on when the top 20 floors of the building are encased in clouds.

That's not quite accurate, but I'm not going to make an animation because the actual spire would be done before the render is.
Wait the last On-Topic comment was:

My educated answer: not until one or two new cranes replace the current cranes. There was a rumor that they were going to use an M1280D or TWO, but a later comment was made that the current M760Ds cannot be removed until the flying stairs are completed. I imagine they'll finish pouring the street level slab first why they're at it.

Somehow I had never (that I can remember) noticed the red section on the LR1200, but looking back at old photos I see that the crane had always had it.

It's over 10 months later now, and they are removing the dirt:

Could the dirt have some sort of explosion-absorption quality? That's a morbid thought, yes, but I'm sure they're doing all sorts of things we don't know about in the name of safety.
