Wow, stunning details!
It looks like they are removing the upper part of the temporary roof from the PATH Station, probably in order to install more arches?! |

Adam-albany posted this in the 1WTC thread. It shows a new section of the plate girder on the ground. I too sure thunk they would have installed it last Friday night (Sat morning) given that the scaffolding has been in place since the middle of last week. Maybe tomorrow night...

They just set the girder down next to the subway box and are repositioning the crane as I type. 11:36pm local time

Back now...
![]() It is interesting that they have been removing the roof of the PATH station this week, only to reveal another roof just a little ways underneath. Last edited by Swiddle; August 21st, 2010 at 05:15 AM. |

In the background is Tower 4, next to that is foundation work for Tower 3, the big red crane (a Manitowoc 18000 w/ Max-ER kit) is sitting on the site of the future Transit Hub.
Running through the middle is the #1 subway box, sitting on temporary supports, (the thing with the little cranes on it.) To the right of that is work being done on the new PATH subway station.

@Zensteeldude: thanks for the information overview, I guess my question was formulated too general, I just meant the lower right of the picture (west of the subway box), where they have been pouring lots of concrete in the last weeks.
Is the vertical wall which is started there the east end of the new PATH station? And what is the function of that rectangular hole there (near the lower right corner in the pic)? |

Yes, it's the east side of the PATH.
The hole is a pipe trench for bringing chilled water from the Chiller Plant to The Transit Hub, among other things. Glad you narrowed it down, if I hadn't been interrupted I would probably still be writing a description of the whole pic.

By GreenwichBoy, WNY, I'm guessing super columns have arrived! 18000 looks to be in action tonight as well, judging by the HD cam.

They look way too small compared to this:
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...9&postcount=16 Big red has piled these up near the southwest corner of 2WTC's foundation. Might be more supports for the PATH station mezzanine level, or maybe permanent supports for No. 1 subway? I'm sure Zen knows... Update: It's placing the columns now while the other Manitowoc takes apart one of the temporary platforms above the the PATH station...

I figure we are still 6 to 10 weeks away from seeing super columns.
The columns they are installing are to support the mezzanine level. |
