Is this the box with the temporary PATH station on the left hand side? Do we have any info when they plan to get the eastern tracks and platforms finish and move on to the western lanes?

its interesting. they are using post tensioned precast to form the roof of that track area. Is that a road above?

I don't think tey are post-tensioned. The precast sections rest on steel beams on either sides (the green steel on the right and left of the picture) that are cantilevered out on brackets that project from the columns in the center of the platforms. The sections are hollow and serve as ventilation ducts, you can see the vents on the sides near the top. Above is the floor of the mezzanine.

Is the main power grid still out in the area? Or are the cameras just having technical problems?

KPI TV cams are back working.. unfortunately the best one from 7 WTC which overlooks the complete site has been turned around by the storm and hasn't been readjusted yet. So it's not the power grid.

The only advantage is that I'm not distracted from work all the time by looking at the cams

For the vertical ribs to go up I think they need the bigger tower cranes, I think they still disassemble the old sliding crane on the eastern side.

It does seem like they are still taking it down, and it also seems like they placed those big beams that were sitting on trailers before Sandy hit

The cam over the Hub is back online. At least we can see where the yellow steel went.

Edit: All the cams are back apparently. Nice.

The KPI TV cam isn't :-(

Is the mobile crane that is removing the interior cranes what will raise the vertical ribs of this station?

They are putting in new even bigger tower cranes. the yellow framework going in on the East end is probably the base of the first one.

Big concrete pour ongoing in the NW corner of the hub, bordering T2 and Greenwich. Looks like some tree boxes there too?

As uakoopos answered, the assist mobil crane will assemble a new east tower crane, which will erect the Oculus steel. DCM is ceding territory to Skanska.

I am having trouble getting my head around the process of assembling the ribs using tower cranes working from within the Oculus. It should be quite a dance putting up the ribs at the eastern and western ends of the Oculus. And the method for installing the central arch utterly escapes me.

Can anybody help me out here?

You're wondering the same thing we've been wondering for the past months. We know that two M1280Ds are coming for this job, but we don't really where they will be and how they'll do the job.

I think someone (325ccr?) reported that they would go inside the oculus, but we're still not very sure about anything.

We don't even know what the yellow steel that is being set up in the oculus is for. It might be a crane pad, it might be the base for a temporary support for the archs, etc.

So all in all, we pretty much know nothing, and we're excited about it.
