Great shot, 325ccr.

The cranes are still busy this morning. Any idea what these are for?...

I spy a pre-cast concrete box beam section on site:

I'm having trouble visualizing where these will be placed in relation to the steel that was just installed, but I guess I'll find out soon.

Are the PATH tracks (and platforms) being lowered to make room for a more spacious mezzanine level above them? Here's a picture from today, and one from February with a train in it:

If the "lips" of the concrete box beam sections are being supported by the tops of the new steel beams, then it looks like the tracks would have to be substantially lower than they use to be.

The Port Authority is now taking questions about the Transportation Hub construction. You can submit a question at the link below,

No, the tracks are most definitely not going to be lowered.

I'll take your word for it, but it warps my mind trying to figure out this puzzle...

The concrete box beam sections are visible from the RGZ cam, and they have become a little more visible from the HD Earthcam:

If the tops of these form the floor of the mezzanine level, and if they are in their final position, then the PATH tracks have to be lower than they use to be. That is unless they are switching to trains that are only big enough for cats to ride.

It has to do with perspective. The hole is much deeper than it looks from that angle. The horizontal beam in the middle of the blue wall is the mezzanine floor level. the 2 new long beams they just installed are at approximately the same level.
There actually will be 2 tracks there, the installed precast slabs are over the one closest to the camera, completely hidden from view of the HD cam. The track with the train on it in the picture from last year, is the second track, and is on the other side of the row of columns.
Zensteeldude posted a nice cross-section drawing of the station on WNY. I outlined in red the column, beams, and precast slabs that were installed. I hope this makes sense to you.

Thanks. That's just the kind of explanation I was hoping for, and I hadn't seen that excellent drawing before.

I have to be very careful about posting prints of the Hub online, notice how much editing I did on that one.

uakoops did such a nice job answering the question that I can't think of anythng to add.

One final note on my question about the tracks... It bugged me that the camera angle could fool my eyes so badly, so I did a little photoshopping (GIMPing actually). This is what it would have looked like had that train been parked there when the more recent image was captured...

So indeed, like uakoops showed, the train was behind (west of) and below the beams. Guess I need a 3D HD Earthcam.
