But a quick question, can someone please tell me what those yellow boards are by the large containers?(church street side)

They've been laying them all over the floor lately, and I have no clue what their purposes are. Are they for better maneuverability around the site or part of the structure in a way?
I'm sorry no one got back to you in the meantime. Sometimes they put down plywood on high traffic routs, such as in front of the container doors. It just helps protect the weatherproof membrane over the concrete from being damaged by the higher foot traffic.

The white marble has been scrapped in favor of white tile. In their defense, as another member noted then, the marble would be constantly dirty and slippery, not to mention extremely costly to install and eventually replace.

Was that for financial reasons? Surely marble is the best surface in terms of durability and longevity, never mind looks. Tiles would get just as dirty and be just as slippery, unless they are matte or textured. Oh well, disappointing nonetheless.

Not for financial reasons.

Just look at the First Canadian Place in Toronto if you want to see what happens with white marble over the years of neglect. It stains to an ugly beigy-grey and becomes weaker. And that ignores all the millions of people that will be stepping on it, with the dirt from their shoes.

I doubt the white tile will even look bad.

Marble is actually a very soft stone and stains equate easily. It's really not a good material for high-traffic areas or dirty areas. Tile on the other hand, is much more resilient to staining and wear! The material costs between the 2 are probably a wash, depending on the quality of material selected. Installation costs of using material is the same.

Marble is sensitive to acidic agents, but there are many other stones available for cladding, some of them are more resilient.

To be honest I can't really see how tiles are aging better than marble. Especially the seam is sensitive to dirt and decay. A highly frequented station in Austria is cladded in marble and aged nicely over half a century. That station was overhauled and extended a few years ago and while it is now even shinier again, the difference between before and after is not all that large. The new central station of Vienna is also getting an all stone cladding, including even the floor and stairs. The used stone is Serpentinit. (Have a look here: http://www.abload.de/img/dsc00925xbptc.jpg)

So if these stones are not good materials for high traffic areas I wonder why they keep using them here.

How is the progress going with the entrance at the Brookfield Place? (former WFC)

Is the glass already being installed?

GerFok, here's a link: http://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/live-camera.html

Click below that image and you can see Brookfield Place.

It's all I can find right now that's working.

This one also has a similar view - and is better to use on smartphones ;-)

They are quite busily working there, but the progress hasn't been visible very well lately. About time to start with the glass, according to http://brookfieldplaceny.com/renovation-updates the entry pavilion opens fall 2013..

"Hub cam showing one of the final sub portals going in!"

Trouble is, there's never a good Hub cam around when you need one.

Thanks webeagle12 that is the cam I have been using. They have another hooked up this morning. Hopefully this is a good sign that these last few will move along quickly now. Can't wait to see how the next phase will progress.

Portskydiver, this "Street View" cam has been working for me lately:

http://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/...nter/index.php

And WebEagle, thanks for that link. When I use it, I get a fresh view, but after that, the view doesn't change until you post another link. Strange.

You always have to refresh the page to get a new picture when you are using the direct links, however, remember that they update only every 15-20 minutes, so not every refresh gives a new view.

Not sure how often it updates but reloading the current page works for me. If it brings up the same image I wait a few minutes and try again until it updates.

Are upper portals still scheduled to come this month and go up in April? Or is that not happening now?
