Nine more portals left to be installed! They should be done next week, or the first week of April.

Here. You have to manually refresh it if you want to keep it up to date. It updates every 4 to 5 seconds.

I've been watching the cams lately. Does anybody know why they placed and then removed the final 2 upper portals on the east end of the Hub?

The other day, they hung the 2 lower portals and had the final upper portal on the north east corner hanging in position from the crane, and then removed it and placed it back on the deck.

Now just this morning they had the south east corner upper portal hanging in place, and now it is back on the deck.

It's just strange.

likely a fit up problem.

yesterdays opposing sub portal took a very long time to erect. They left that lifting beam on it overnight in place....

Yes, abutment pieces and some upper portals arriving to Port Redhook, installation will begin on abutment areas before they move with upper portals. There have been some field adjustment issues on the corners, hopefully final 12 pieces will be complete by the first week of april.

According to the FTA/PANYNJ report, the transit hub costs will rise to more than 4 billion due to Sandy damages and completition date has been pushed because of recovery efforts. Extra funding for recovery will be provided by a different account, not PA/FTA money.

Full opening set for December 17, 2015.

I assume they are fit checking the sub portals in the corners. They will set them aside so they have access to get equipment and material to the 1st lower floor. Since they are going to start from the middle installing the upper portals, leaving out the sub portals at the ends would be the most logical place. Just a WAG.

Well that's unfortunate, and kind of ridiculous that it wont be open until almost 2016...

Well, that's the ultimate date accorded, of course the best is to open it as soon as possible.

It appears the east-end abutment coverings have been removed. Is that progress?
I'm hoping so

Yes. Abutment pieces to be delivered to site very soon. Don't know exact dates as these are C&P.

Once both east and west abutments are complete:
1. A package of 3-4 upper portals will follow with their respective guy wire, following an outside-in installation.
2. Every three or four portals there's going to be some type of temporary bracing between north and south holding them up. I believe there's going to be temporary bracing as well between adjacent portals.
3. Transition and arch segments arrive and get welded to their respective portal frame.
4. Once load is transfered to the fixed arch, guy wires will be removed.

repeat.

Note: All pieces are coming with a white intumescent coating, most of the connections will be welded. Hell alot of welding

Thanks for the great news, Otie.

Seems they're taking their time with the last nine portals.

This is looking great and I can't wait for the upper portals to arrive.

I have one question though:

In that last photo you can see two of the portals having large notches on the side facing the centre of the hub. Does anyone know the purpose of those and will they be filled in later?

From wtcprogress,

"More than 600 workers each day work at the WTC Transportation Hub."

A theory could be that they are there to have somewhere to put mobile antennas to cover the space inside of the station. If it's true then it's really nice to see that they have put some though into the design.
