Kaohsiung light rail tracklaying begins
25 Apr 2014

TAIWAN: Tracklaying started on the Kaohsiung light rail project on April 24. Construction had begun in June 2013, and test running on the first section is scheduled to begin in September. Revenue services are expected to start in June 2015.

The 22·1 km, 36-stop circular route is being built in three stages. The initial 8·7 km section is to run from Asian New Bay Area to Sizihwan District with grassed track and 14 stops.

A CAF-Evergreen Construction consortium is building the first stage, with CAF also to supply a fleet of Urbos low-floor trams equipped with an onboard energy storage system that will be recharged at intervals along the line to allow for catenary-free operation.

The line has a construction budget of NT$16·3bn, of which NT$6·1bn is being provided by the central government.
I know that news is about light rail, but I don't want to create another thread

CAF LRVs for Kaohsiung arrive in Taiwan
Thursday, September 11, 2014

THE first two CAF Urbos catenary-free low-floor LRVs for the light rail circle line under construction in Taiwan's second-largest city Kaohsiung was unloaded at the port of Taitung on September 11 following a five-week sea voyage from Barcelona

A consortium of CAF and construction company Evergreen was awarded a $NT 5.7bn ($US 190m) turnkey contract in 2012 to build and equip the initial 8.6km 14-station phase, which is due to open by the end of the year. As well as vehicles, CAF's share of the contract includes signalling, electrification, and fare collection systems.

The 13.5km 23-station second phase, which will complete the loop, is due to be completed in 2017. The total cost of both phases will be $NT 16.5bn.

The 2.65m-wide Urbos LRVs will accommodate up to 250 passengers and are equipped with CAF's ultracapacitor-based Rapid Charge Accumulator (ACR) onboard energy storage system, which will be recharged at stations.

The first vehicle is due to arrive in Kaohsiung on September 13

Are they testing in August or open to the public in August? I think it's only opening to the public next year?

First phase of Kaohsiung Circular LRT includes Lizihnei (C1) ←→ Hamasing (Hamasen; C14) section.

Lizihnei (C1) ←→ Kaisyuan Jhonghua (C4) section is scheduled to open for free reserved experience in the end of this August

(Passengers will only be allowed to board & disembark the train at Lizihnei Station),

while the opening of Kaisyuan Jhonghua (C4) ←→ Kaohsiung Exhibition Center (C8) section is postponed to a later date because of construction delays.

Kaohsiung Exhibition Center (C8) ←→ Hamasing (C14) section is planned to open in the middle of next year,

and revenue service of this line will also be officially started at that time.

Kaohsiung begins light rail testing
Wednesday, July 22, 2015

A one-week programme of dynamic testing began on July 21 on the first light rail line in Taiwan's second city Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit Bureau says trams are running at half-hourly intervals on the four-station southern section of the Circle Line between the Stage 1 terminus at Lizihnei and Kalsyuan. Following the completion of this phase of testing, an initial review will be submitted to the municipal government.

When the initial review has been approved by the city, it will apply to Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications for a final review and approval to begin operations. Trial public operation is expected to start in the second half of next month, with passenger services due to begin on the remainder of the 8.7km Stage 1 to Hamaxing in October
