About the KTMB HQ: It is probably a few ways of looking at it. In the strictest sense, a historic building should function as it was intended to at which the heritage value is highest. Singapore has a few times gone for restore and readapt which although preserves the structure and caters extremely well to tourists while justifying the financial case; it can also feel desperately tacky, awkward and lacking in depth (eg. CHIJMES). In my opinion, KTMB as a historic establishment should be very proud to own, operate and maintain a living heritage. But of course in the end it is all about the money – as you put it. Still, I am unconvinced of the long-term revenue contribution from the leasing of this building. Ideally, sort out the real reasons behind their loss-making services first before proceeding with other revenue enhancing methods.

The old KL railway station may see a revival if designated as a potential urban rail interchange for new underground metro lines and have it fully integrated with Pasar Seni – bearing in mind that KL Sentral does not have an infinite capacity either. The railway station is different from the KTMB HQ in that it needs a more strategic transport planning approach to its future use.
For it to success Old KL railway station must have both combination as a main rail interchange and a boutique shopping mall, it will be an interesting to turn it into a shopping mall with british colonial style building. Just look at how Sydney develop its QVB(Queen Victoria Building)or even The Strand. With good planning and strategy KTM will get millions from this. Same goes with the Asian Heritage Row... from nothing to one of the hotspot place in KL today.

agree. but there's always a conflict either to make it commercial with loose regulation or follow strict guidelines by National Heritage Department.

just like this Majestic Hotel. since it's been gazetted as 'national heritage', like it or not the developer MUST follow the guidelines. if i's not been gazetted like the Sentul old train depot, it's up to developer to draw proposal.

I don't think he should mentioned the project as a "Resort". very deceiving!!

i think he should refrain himself from making any statement about "building development", every time he speak up about buildings (PNB Tower & this YTL), sure gonna be an issue.
